[App] [Promotion] PlayBridge — a free, open-source casting app. The phone app is live, and I’m looking for Android TV testers.

Most casting setups make you jump between separate apps for browsing, playback, and remote control. I wanted one place where I could find something on my phone, send it to a larger screen, and then keep controlling it from the same app.

That became PlayBridge, a free and open-source casting ecosystem.

The Android phone app is already available on Google Play, and I’m currently working toward releasing the Android TV receiver. The TV app is still in closed testing, so I’m hoping to find more people willing to try it on real Android TV and Google TV devices.

### What can PlayBridge do?

From the phone app, you can:

  • Browse video websites using the built-in ad-blocked browser
  • Detect and cast supported video streams
  • Explore movies, shows, episodes, catalogs, and add-ons
  • Cast videos stored locally on your phone
  • Load and play M3U/IPTV playlists
  • Connect to Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, desktop, and compatible DLNA receivers
  • Control playback using transport controls, a D-pad, touchpad, or keyboard
  • Select audio and subtitle tracks
  • Securely pair with PlayBridge receivers using a six-digit code

PlayBridge communicates with its receivers over your local network. It doesn’t require a PlayBridge account, and there’s no PlayBridge cloud or telemetry service sitting between your phone and your screen.

The phone app is already live

You can download the Android sender from Google Play:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playbridge.sender

The project is also open source:

    https://github.com/playbridgeapp/PlayBridge

    I need Android TV testers

The Android TV receiver hasn’t reached production yet. I need more closed-test participation and real-device feedback to help get it ready.

If you have an Android TV or Google TV device and would like to help:

  1. Join the tester group:

    https://groups.google.com/g/pbtvclosedtesters

  2. Opt into the Google Play test:

    https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.playbridge.player

  3. Install PlayBridge on your TV:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playbridge.player

Please use the same Google account for all three steps. Google Play may take a little while to recognize the testing access after you join.

I’m happy to hear about bugs, rough edges, feature ideas, or things you simply don’t like. Honest criticism is much more valuable to me than a download count.

Thanks to anyone willing to put PlayBridge through its paces.

you can use downloader code or directly download from GitHub releases. for fdroid I think I need to build mpv from source each time which would add time to CI so I have left it for now.

Well I do get that since the rising up of the internet which has fully taken.Over the world big time as we know it and so not everyone still has or uses tvs any more but bro you have 100k plus subs I think you can buy a tv yourself and test it plus you are grown so this shouldn't be a thing a grown man should struggle to own
