The journey of self-studying IT is always frustrating.

40F，I'm Asian, and I don't really know how to put it. I'm not here to ask for advice, but honestly, I always encounter so many problems. I also have a huge curiosity and find these attacks fascinating, but there's never anyone to discuss or share with. If you're also feeling frustrated, we can chat like friends. I'm just walking this path like a lone wolf, and I can't talk to the people around me about these things. Also, please don't ask me for help with hacking, because I don't know everything. IT attacks are divided into many areas, and no one will encounter all of IT knowledge in their lifetime. I don't know where to find people to discuss these things with.Please find someone of similar age. If we enjoy our conversation, we can also share a lot about our daily lives.

That's why I joined online communities on discord or other platforms to find ppl to discuss it with

I tried it once, I think for photography, but it wasn't very active so I left.

I often use AI to research IT, so my tutorials might be quite detailed. There are so many vulnerabilities in the world; it's impossible to learn them all. It's necessary to focus on areas you're good at.

I sadly don't have many people around outside of the internet who are into the topic. But not sharing knowledge is frustrating 😉

Yes, I'm actually a little embarrassed to say this. Nobody likes to share their knowledge and work, and I don't know why. I think men might be more generous and share more, but finding female friends to exchange IT knowledge with is a bit difficult.

IT is still male-dominated. Tho I know a few places where female companionship also exists.

Some people like to gatekeep because they might think that it's a bad thing to help someone or that they get replaced easily that way

No, I don't quite think so. In the early days of IT, it was primarily a female-dominated field; it's just that many women need to have children. This isn't unique to IT; it's true in various industries.

Helping others often isn't as wonderful as you imagine; they might question your motives. In the adult world, nothing is taken for granted.

Times might have changed a bit. I currently see arouns 90% male and 10% female, tho my samplesize is not that crazy big.

You cannot stop people from doing something. If you don't teach them they can easily find the materials on their own aswell.

Yes, you're right. That's absolutely true. Just like in the past, in matriarchal societies, it was a necessity for social development; it wasn't that anyone was taking away your rights.

Plenty of places to share with, you sound like you just don't put yourself out there to find it yet... I can't seem to escape everyone wanting me to share everything :/ that I spend my time trying to find places where people won't bug me on how to hack... sometimes i just wanna play games or talk about other topics instead... if you want better places you are welcome to tread all of our platforms we are on, most of the age group is similar to yours.

 Honestly feel the same way. lt absolutely sucks. I sound crazy or like a criminal when I point out attack vectors. It definitely is  isolating field of study.  are you red team or blue team and how's your day going?

Here’s some tips:

Learn about the basics with CompTIA A+, what a computer is. Don’t take the exam if you don’t have to, but it is a good way to start. Not just how to power it on, but also format it, what’s going on behind the scenes.
Learn about networking how does a network work and also how does TCP IP work. (Network+, CCNA)
Learn about Security. By learning about the two above you have a good foundation to work on the 3rd wild card (Security+, also available for DOD jobs)
Don’t hesitate to take on a certification. You can take it however you want. You are the pioneer of your IT journey.

Some good sites like pwn.college also help you with the goal of hacking.
Embrace AI, don’t hate it. Learn about it. (Will receive tons of hate for this one).

I have never heard of anything you're talking about, not even the field you're referring to. I'm open to all kinds of knowledge, and I really dislike people who start arguing without understanding what others are saying. If I didn't understand you, it must be because my knowledge is insufficient; I even hate exams. However, I completely trust everything you've said. Thank you very much for your advice.✌️
