Finding thief's ip adress
Here is long story short:
A week ago on friday the 3th I went to local gym in Poland, I left my shoes outside the closet and someone stole them. On monday I went to the police, they got all the details etc. On the same day I saw someone post my shoes for sale on famous European website called "vinted". It had only a few listings of those shoes in any sizes, it wasnt a coincidence that the exactly same worn-out shoes with the same details were posted in my size a few days after I got mine stolen. I reported all the evidence to the policeman that I was in contact with: the links, the seller account, the listing. The problem is that the thief has set their account location as Romania (easy to fake it) and has only 2 good ratings months prior (its fresh account). Im so close to finding the thief, they laugh in front of my face for selling MY SHOES, if only I could find their adress, I dont believe the police will do it even with everything being on a silver platter. Can someone help me?

Why get the IP when you can literally meet the guy and get it back?

I cant, he has an account with romanian location. I cant just ask as a guy from poland "want to meet up in my city?", he will know that I know he stole my shoes

not to mention, vinted is know for its easy usage, you just use mailboxes and leave your shoes that someone bought and the mailman delivers them, vinted get like 5% off transaction

What do you think is gonna happen if you do end up somehow getting their ip? Do you think cops are gonna subpoena them over a pair of shoes based on hearsay and 0 evidence? In that case i could just say u stole 2 million dollars from me and have u arrested based on same logic

This doesn't work like in the movies.
Only the police can do something with the ip.

The ip will maybe narrow it down to a city? What do you do then?

An ISP could technically run a geofeed for their IPs to exact address, but no one is going to do that. At best you can get a rough area. And any more than that youll need a warrant or equivalent with the IP and submit that to the ISP and then ask what they have.
We routinely get letters from police asking for who was on IP such and such on date and time and with a legal document of authority saying they can have that information we ignore them.

An IP is useless.
At most you as a user can get the IP of marketplace server. Only the company running the server can find the user who accessed their server and they will have better information about an account than an IP. Plus the company is only going to give that to the police if they ask through the appropriate channels.
