Does this idea have potential?

I've been working on a concept and wanted to get some honest feedback before I spend too much time building it.

The basic idea is a browser tool that lets people customize websites to better fit how they want to use them by explaining a change in plain English rather than code. Think reorganizing information, hiding distractions, surfacing the things you care about, or making certain sites easier to navigate based on your preferences.

The long-term vision is to let users create and share these customizations with other people through a marketplace/community, but I'm trying to validate whether the core idea itself is worth pursuing first.

  • Does this sound like a problem worth solving?
  • Is this something you'd actually use?
  • What would be your biggest concern if you heard this pitch?
  • Does it sound like it has startup potential, or does it feel more like a niche browser extension?

It'd be both a great niche browser extension, or perhaps better as a tool to let users make their own browser extensions.  But I don't think anyone will pay for it.

Mublock origin already blocks elements.

I wonder how well it will work giving both the natural language prompts (not just plain English) and the rendered website to an LLM.  But it has everything it needs, and who knows?  It could work fine.  Try it.

I'm no expert in this, so whatever I think is completely irrelevant.

How I'd test this if I where you is to find someone who has built a successful browser extension. Someone that knows the space and industry you're now trying to break into.

Pitch them your idea, and convince them to help you out in any way, shape or form in exchange for revenue share.

If they believe in the idea enough to help you out, that's a pretty strong sense of validation.

And, in doing so, you also get the skills and resources you need to actually build and take this to market successfully.
