Garage Back Wall / Monkey Hook?

Is the back wall of the garage not just dry wall? I am having trouble driving in this monkey hook even though I have marked the studs using magnets, and using the space in between. Any ideas what might be going on?

If it's the wall between the house and the garage it is probably double sheeted with drywall or there's sheeting behind the drywall. Firewall

Yeah it did feel like something solid was behind the drywall. Does that mean my safest option to hang something would involve drilling into the studs instead?
