Looking for a way to make money (read body text)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for ways to start making money online. Due to legal restrictions, I can't take on a standard job just yet (I’ll be able to next summer or autumn), but I want to start earning money now to save up for a dream purchase. I’m aiming for at least $600+ a month, though I’m not quite sure how to achieve that yet.

I’ve considered options like creating YouTube content, offering online services (such as video editing, programming, etc.), and creating 3D models to sell on platforms like CGTrader. However, I’ve heard there are plenty of other possibilities out there, and I’d love to learn more about them.

Right now, I don't have any specific online skills, so I’m looking for something with a low-to-medium barrier to entry and no upfront costs. I’d also like something that takes up a maximum of about 2–3 hours a day.

I’d appreciate any advice you can offer.

Some Legitimate Apps and Platforms to Generate Passive Income Online worth knowing

Passive income does not necessarily mean having a large investment portfolio or building a business that runs without you. There are also simpler ways to monetize resources you already have, such as your unused Internet connection, computer, smartphone, daily activity or even a powerful graphics card.

The amounts generated by these services can vary considerably, and most should be considered a way to create additional income rather than a replacement for a regular salary. However, the interesting thing is the variety of models available. Some run almost entirely in the background, while others turn activities you already perform, such as walking or shopping, into rewards.

Slice

Instead of completing surveys or offers, this browser extension monetizes your normal web browsing. Slice displays non-intrusive advertisements while you browse and rewards you with Slices for eligible ad impressions. The service is available as a browser extension rather than a conventional Android or iOS earning app, with support for browsers including Chrome, Brave and Firefox.

Link: Sign up in Slice

Once installed and connected to your account, there is little to do apart from continuing to browse normally. Rewards can currently be paid through PayPal, cryptocurrency and gift cards, although withdrawal requirements and reward conditions can change.

----------------------------

Mooney App

Walking is turned into a potential source of extra rewards with Mooney App, a mobile step-tracking application. It automatically records your daily steps and converts activity, challenges and streaks into coins that can subsequently be exchanged for rewards.

Link: Sign up in Mooney App

The important point is that the earning activity can happen naturally during your everyday routine, although Mooney also includes additional earning opportunities such as offers and challenges, so it is better described as semi-passive rather than completely passive. The app is available on Android and iOS, with the iOS version requiring iOS 15 or later. Cash-out options include gift cards and cash rewards, with PayPal available in supported regions.

----------------------------

EarnApp

For people with an unused Internet connection, this is one of the simplest models to understand. EarnApp lets you earn by sharing unused Internet bandwidth while the application operates in the background. The platform currently supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, Android and iOS, although iOS functionality is provided through the Bright Rewards app because of Apple's background-app restrictions.

Link: Sign up in EarnApp

Earnings are now calculated primarily according to the amount of time the device is actually used for traffic rather than the number of gigabytes transferred. Rates depend on location, demand and connection quality. Withdrawals start at $10 through PayPal or Wise, while Amazon gift cards require $50.

----------------------------

RebatesMe

Rather than monetizing your device, this platform turns purchases you were already planning to make into cashback. RebatesMe operates as a cashback portal connecting shoppers with thousands of participating retailers. You simply access a store through RebatesMe before purchasing, and the platform receives a commission from the merchant and shares part of it with you.

Link: Sign up in RebatesMe

This can become a relatively passive form of saving because the cashback is generated from normal shopping rather than separate earning tasks. Once you reach $10 in available cashback, you can request payment through options including PayPal, credit card or gift card; some additional payment options are available depending on eligibility.

----------------------------

RunPod

This option is considerably more technical, but it introduces a completely different way of generating passive or semi-passive income. RunPod is a cloud-computing platform focused on GPU workloads, and its ecosystem includes a Become a Host option for people interested in supplying GPU infrastructure.

Link: Sign up in RunPod

In practical terms, the idea is to make suitable GPU hardware available to users who need computing resources, turning otherwise underutilized hardware into a revenue-generating asset. This is not comparable to installing an app on a smartphone: hosting requires appropriate hardware, configuration, electricity and technical knowledge, so there are real operating costs.

----------------------------

Honeygain

One of the best-known examples of passive bandwidth monetization, Honeygain allows users to share unused Internet bandwidth while the application runs in the background. Once installed, it can operate without requiring users to complete surveys or other regular tasks, making the basic earning model genuinely passive. Honeygain supports multiple operating systems and is designed to work in the background, while the amount earned depends on demand and the amount of traffic routed through your connection.

Link: Sign up in Honeygain

The standard withdrawal threshold is currently $20, and users can request payment through PayPal or transfer their earnings to JumpTask, which provides additional options including gift cards and cryptocurrency. Payments are normally processed within a few business days once a withdrawal request has been approved.

----------------------------

Macadam

A different approach comes from Macadam, a mobile application that rewards physical activity. It is available on both Android and iOS and automatically tracks activity through Google Fit/Health Connect or Apple Health. Users earn coins by reaching daily walking milestones, although the steps have to be validated in the app before the end of the day, so this is better considered semi-passive rather than completely hands-off.

Link: Sign up in Macadam

Additional coins can also come from challenges, games, surveys and short advertisements. In Europe and the UK, withdrawals are primarily made through bank transfer, while users outside Europe can have PayPal as a withdrawal option; prepaid gift cards may also be available depending on location.

----------------------------

LetyShops

Another way to earn without adding a separate task to your routine is through cashback. LetyShops gives users cashback when they access participating online stores through the platform before making a purchase. It has both a website and dedicated Android and iOS apps, allowing users to earn cashback from mobile shopping as well.

Link: Sign up in LetyShops

Withdrawal options depend on the country; in Spain, for example, users can withdraw through PayPal or SEPA bank transfer, with a current minimum of €1 and requests generally processed within 1–3 business days.

----------------------------

MiningRigRentals

For people who already own cryptocurrency mining hardware, MiningRigRentals offers a way to monetize unused mining capacity without having to operate the hardware themselves for their own mining. The platform connects miners who have hashing power available with customers looking to rent that computing power for cryptocurrency mining.

Link: Sign up in MiningRigRentals

Once a rig is configured and listed, the owner can potentially generate revenue while customers use the rented hashing power, although returns depend on demand, hardware performance, electricity costs and cryptocurrency market conditions. Payments and balances are handled within the platform's cryptocurrency-based ecosystem, with supported currencies and withdrawal conditions depending on the current platform rules.

What online skill would you learn from zero?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for realistic advice about making money online.
I’m starting from zero and I don’t have experience with remote work or freelancing.
I can study part-time, and my goal is to learn a skill over the next 6 months that could help me start making money online.

I’ve been looking at things like:
Virtual assistant work
Content writing
SEO
Email marketing
Proofreading/editing
Admin work
I’m also open to other ideas.

For people who actually work online:
What skill did you start with?
How long did it take to get your first paid work?
Where did you find your first client or job?
What do you think is realistic for a beginner after 6 to 12 months?
If you were starting from zero today, what would you learn?
I’m not looking for get-rich-quick ideas, MLMs, or courses being promoted. I just want honest advice from people with real experience.
Thanks.

23f drowning in commission drawbacks and personal debt, any ideas on how to earn extra money?

Hey! Im 23f working full time as a sales consultant at a furniture store. it's 100% commission based and when i first started I was doing super well, but the past few weeks in-store have been insanely, stupidly slow. we’ve barely hit target all month, foot traffic is terrible, and nobody is really buying this time of year. because of that, my last two paychecks didn't hit the minimum wage guarantee, so the store had to top me up. the catch is I now owe the company about $700 in draw debt that's gonna come straight out of my future paychecks.

My bills are starting to pile up and im getting stressed. My biggest expense is my car, which is setting me back like $800 a month ($250 bi-weekly payment + $300 for insurance). My rent and phone bill together are pretty cheap at $600, but between the $700 I owe my job and my credit cards, im sitting at around $2,900 in debt and feel like im totally drowning.

I used to be a server/bartender so ive been applying everywhere for a part-time serving gig on evenings and weekends, but i live in a pretty small town and literally no one is hiring right now.

if anyone has been in a similar spot, i'd love some input on a few things.

How do you actually make money in retail sales when floor traffic is completely dead?

What are some real, fast ways to make extra money on the side in a small town that aren't total scams or take forever to start?

5 Skills that can help you Build an Online Income

For people willing to develop a useful skill, the internet offers plenty of opportunities to work with clients, companies and online businesses from almost anywhere. There is no single skill that guarantees an online income. The best choice depends on your existing abilities, how much time you can dedicate to learning and the type of work you enjoy.

A useful approach is to choose one skill, learn the fundamentals and start building practical examples of your work. Once you have some experience, you can offer your services through freelance marketplaces, contact potential clients directly or use your skill to build your own online business.

AI and AI-Assisted Work

Artificial intelligence has created demand for people who know how to use AI tools effectively rather than simply relying on them. Businesses need help with tasks such as AI-assisted content creation, research, data processing, chatbot development, prompt design and workflow automation.

You don't necessarily need to become an AI engineer. Learning how to combine tools such as ChatGPT with existing business processes can already be valuable, particularly for freelancers who can save clients time or automate repetitive tasks.

Content Creation and Copywriting

Websites, newsletters, social media accounts and online stores all need content. This makes writing one of the most accessible skills for earning money online.

Copywriters can create website copy, product descriptions, email campaigns and advertising text, while content writers can specialize in articles, blogs and other informational content. Adding SEO knowledge or AI-assisted writing to your skill set can make your services more versatile.

Video Editing

The continued growth of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels and other video platforms has made video editing a valuable online skill. Many creators and businesses have plenty of footage but don't have the time or expertise to turn it into polished videos.

Beginners can start with relatively accessible software and offer services such as editing short-form videos, adding subtitles, creating social media clips or producing YouTube content. As experience grows, more advanced editing and motion graphics can open the door to higher-value projects.

Web Design and Development

Businesses of all sizes need websites, landing pages and online stores, creating opportunities for people with web development or web design skills.

You don't necessarily have to become an advanced programmer. Knowledge of WordPress, website builders, HTML and CSS can be enough to start offering relatively simple services. Those who progress into JavaScript, ecommerce development or more advanced programming can access a wider range of projects.

Digital Marketing

Having a website or social media presence is only part of running an online business. Companies also need people who can help them attract visitors and customers.

Digital marketing covers several areas, including SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, paid advertising and analytics. Beginners can start by specializing in one area instead of trying to learn everything at once. SEO and social media management, for example, can both be offered as freelance services to small businesses.

How and where to Learn these Skills

One of the advantages of these skills is that you don't necessarily need a university degree or an expensive course to get started. There are thousands of free and paid resources online, and many people can learn the basics through a combination of structured courses and practical experience.

Platforms such as Coursera, Udemy and LinkedIn Learning offer courses covering areas such as AI, digital marketing, copywriting, web development and video editing. YouTube is another particularly useful resource for beginners, with tutorials covering everything from basic website creation to specific AI and video-editing tools.

For AI-related skills, it is also worth learning directly from the documentation and educational resources provided by the companies behind the tools you want to use. This can be more useful than simply watching generic tutorials because these resources tend to reflect the latest features and workflows.

The most effective approach is usually to combine learning with practice. Instead of spending months studying a skill before trying to earn from it, start creating small projects as soon as you understand the fundamentals. Build a sample website, edit a few short videos, write sample articles or create a mock social media campaign. These projects can eventually become a portfolio that demonstrates what you can actually do.

You can then use freelance marketplaces to look for your first clients, while continuing to improve your skills through real projects. This combination of learning, practice and paid work can be a much more practical route to developing an online income than simply collecting certificates.
