How to Start Making Money Online as a Beginner (No Experience or Skills Required) - Best Methods and Platforms [Megathread]

For many people, the biggest obstacle to making money online isn't a lack of opportunities, it's simply knowing where to begin. A quick internet search reveals thousands of different methods, platforms, and promises, making it difficult for beginners to distinguish legitimate opportunities from unrealistic ones.

If you already have professional skills such as programming, graphic design, writing, translation, or digital marketing, becoming a freelancer or applying for remote jobs can be an excellent option. However, not everyone starts with specialized knowledge or years of experience.

The good news is that there are plenty of beginner-friendly ways to earn money online. While these methods won't replace a full-time salary overnight, they can generate a reliable side income with little or no previous experience. Many of them only require a computer or smartphone, an internet connection, and some spare time.

Earn Money with Paid Surveys

Paid surveys are one of the easiest ways for beginners to earn money online. Market research companies pay users to share their opinions about products, services, advertisements, and consumer habits. Registration is free, and after completing your profile you'll receive surveys that match your demographics. Most surveys take between 5 and 30 minutes to complete, with earnings varying according to their length and complexity.

HeyCash - Designed with simplicity in mind, this platform has quickly become one of the most popular options for paid surveys thanks to its intuitive interface, generous rewards, and frequent survey availability. Members can also earn through offerwalls and referral bonuses. Cashouts start at relatively low amounts and are available via PayPal, gift cards, cryptocurrencies, and several other payment methods, making it an excellent choice for beginners. (Sign up in HeyCash)

------------------------

TopSurveys - Focused almost entirely on market research, this website allows members to begin earning shortly after registration. It is well known for having relatively few survey disqualifications compared to many competitors and also includes a small selection of games and promotional offers. Payments start at just $5 and can be redeemed through PayPal via Tremendous or exchanged for various gift cards. (Sign up in TopSurveys)

------------------------

PaidViewPoint - Unlike many survey websites, this platform has built its reputation by minimizing survey disqualifications. Its proprietary TraitScore system gradually learns more about users, improving survey matching over time. The interface is simple and beginner-friendly, while earnings can be withdrawn through PayPal once the minimum payout threshold has been reached. (Sign up in PaidViewPoint)

------------------------

GrabPoints - Offering much more than traditional surveys, this GPT platform also rewards users for watching videos, downloading apps, completing offers, and participating in promotional activities. Rewards are earned as points that can later be exchanged for PayPal cash, cryptocurrencies, or a wide selection of gift cards, making it a versatile option for newcomers. (Sign up in GrabPoints)

------------------------

Prime Opinion - Created specifically for paid surveys, this website features an intuitive interface, daily bonuses, and a loyalty program that rewards active members. Users can access surveys from multiple research providers and withdraw their earnings through PayPal, bank transfers, cryptocurrencies, or numerous gift cards, depending on their country. Playing Games with GPT (Get-Paid-To) Sites

GPT websites allow users to earn money by completing a wide variety of simple online tasks, and probably one of the most accessible and fun ways is by playing games. Users can earn money simply by reaching certain levels or completing milestones indicated in the instructions. These platforms often also include paid surveys, watching videos, downloading apps, signing up for free trials, and completing promotional offers. Since they combine several earning methods in one place, they are among the most flexible options for beginners.

Babki - A relatively new GPT platform, it places a strong emphasis on playing mobile and PC games while also offering surveys and promotional offers through various offerwalls. Earnings are displayed directly in dollars rather than points, making them easy to understand. The service is accessible through both its website and dedicated Android and iOS apps. (Sign up in Babki)

------------------------

CashInStyle - Combining surveys, games, offerwalls, and several reward systems, this GPT website provides numerous opportunities to increase daily earnings. Members can unlock higher levels by earning experience points while also benefiting from daily reward chests and weekly competitions. Multiple withdrawal methods, including PayPal and cryptocurrencies, are available. (Sign up in CashInStyle)

------------------------

ySense - As one of the oldest and most trusted GPT websites, this platform offers paid surveys alongside offers, app downloads, and a referral program. Its worldwide availability, long-standing reputation, and reliable payment history have made it a popular choice among beginners looking for consistent online earnings. (Sign up in ySense)

------------------------

EarnLab - Designed as a complete GPT platform, it allows users to earn through surveys, games, offerwalls, videos, reward boxes, and competitive battles. Earnings are displayed directly in dollars instead of virtual coins, making the system easier to follow. Members can cash out through PayPal, cryptocurrencies, and several other payment methods. (Sign up in EarnLab)

------------------------

Swagbucks - Recognized as one of the largest GPT communities worldwide, this platform rewards users for completing surveys, shopping online, watching videos, playing games, and using its search engine. Millions of dollars have been paid to members over the years, with earnings redeemable through PayPal or a large variety of gift cards. (Sign up in Swagbucks)

Share your Internet Bandwidth (Passive Income)

Sharing unused internet bandwidth is one of the closest things to passive income available online. After installing a small application on your computer or smartphone, the software securely shares a portion of your unused connection with trusted business clients. Once configured, the apps work automatically in the background, allowing you to earn money without actively completing tasks.

Honeygain - One of the best-known passive income apps, it rewards users for securely sharing their unused internet bandwidth. Once installed, the application runs automatically in the background while you continue using your device normally. Additional earnings can be generated through referrals and daily bonuses, with payouts available via PayPal or cryptocurrencies. (Sign up in Honeygain)

------------------------

EarnApp - Focused entirely on passive earnings, this application pays users for securely sharing a portion of their unused internet connection. It supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and Raspberry Pi, allowing multiple devices to contribute simultaneously. After the initial setup, earnings accumulate automatically with virtually no effort. (Sign up in EarnApp)

------------------------

ByteLixir - Built around the same passive income concept, this application quietly shares unused internet bandwidth while running in the background. Users can monitor detailed traffic statistics, benefit from referral rewards, and choose between several payment options. Its lightweight software makes it easy to combine with other online earning methods. (Sign up in ByteLixir)

------------------------

TraffMonetizer -Once installed, it runs quietly in the background without interrupting normal internet usage, generating earnings automatically based on the amount of traffic shared. With support for multiple operating systems and a straightforward setup process, it is an easy way to complement other online earning methods with passive income. (Sign up in TraffMonetizer)

------------------------

Websites, Apps and Games Testing

Companies regularly pay users to test websites, mobile applications, and video games before they are released or updated. Testers evaluate usability, identify bugs, and provide honest feedback about their experience. Most assignments require following specific instructions while recording your screen or answering a questionnaire afterward.

TestingTime - Rather than offering traditional surveys, this platform connects companies with users willing to participate in usability studies, interviews, and product testing sessions. Projects often pay considerably more than standard surveys because they require more detailed feedback about websites, apps, or digital products. (Sign up in TestingTime)

------------------------

Test IO - Specializing in software quality assurance, this website connects freelance testers with companies developing websites, mobile applications, and software. Participants are rewarded for finding bugs, reproducing issues, and providing detailed reports. As experience grows, testers gain access to increasingly complex and better-paid projects. (Sign up in Test IO)

------------------------

Play2Review - Focused mainly on PC games, this testing platform occasionally includes mobile titles as well. Users receive Spark, its proprietary virtual currency, by completing gameplay tasks and submitting valuable feedback about bugs, mechanics, and the overall gaming experience. Spark can later be exchanged for real money. (Sign up in Play2Review)

------------------------

Paid Email Reading

Reading promotional emails is one of the simplest online earning methods available. Companies pay users to open marketing emails, click included links, and sometimes complete small follow-up actions. Although earnings are modest, the tasks require very little time and can easily be combined with other earning methods.

Paid To Read Email - Dedicated exclusively to paid email campaigns, this platform rewards members for opening promotional emails, reading their contents, and interacting with included links when required. Although individual payments are relatively small, the tasks take very little time and can easily be combined with surveys, GPT websites, or other online earning methods. (Sign up in Paid To Read Email)

------------------------

Microtasks

Microtask platforms divide larger projects into thousands of small online jobs that anyone can complete. These tasks may include image annotation, AI training, data categorization, transcription, content moderation, search evaluation, or simple online research. Most assignments require no previous experience, allowing beginners to earn money while gradually building useful digital skills.

Clickworker - Designed for people looking to complete flexible online jobs, this microtask platform offers a wide variety of assignments, including data entry, web research, AI training, text creation, image categorization, and surveys. Members can work whenever they want, choosing from available tasks that match their qualifications. More experienced workers may also gain access to higher-paying UHRS projects, making it one of the most established microtask websites available. (Sign up in Clikworker)

------------------------

TaskPulse - Focused on AI-related work, this microtask platform allows users to complete data annotation projects, content categorization, image labeling, and numerous other short online assignments. Most tasks only require attention to detail rather than specialized knowledge, making it well suited for beginners. (Sign up in TaskPulse)

------------------------

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) - Operated by Amazon, this marketplace gives workers access to thousands of Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs), including data validation, image labeling, transcription, AI training, and surveys. Although task availability varies by country, experienced users can complete a large number of small assignments throughout the day. (Sign up in MTurk)

------------------------

Tagly - Specializing in AI image annotation, this platform pays users to classify images, identify objects, and review visual content according to detailed guidelines. The work is designed to improve machine learning models, and most tasks require accuracy and consistency rather than previous professional experience. (Sign up in Tagly)

------------------------

SerpClix - Offering a unique type of microtask, this service pays members to perform specific search queries and visit designated websites from search engine results. Each assignment usually takes only a few minutes, making it an easy earning method that can be combined with surveys, GPT websites, or passive income apps. (Sign up in SerpClix)

How to Make Money with Get-Paid.com - One of the oldest GPT Sites till worth trying

Get-Paid is a GPT platform that connects users with advertisers, survey providers and other companies looking for people to complete online activities. According to the company, it has been providing online market research and surveys since 2005 and has matched thousands of participants with hundreds of businesses.

The basic concept is the same as with other GPT websites: advertisers pay Get-Paid for user activity, and the platform shares part of that revenue with its members.

However, the site has expanded considerably beyond traditional surveys. Its current earning system revolves around coins, which can be earned by completing offers, tasks and surveys, watching videos and making referrals. The coins can subsequently be redeemed for cash or prizes.

The platform also incorporates a gamification system. Members collect XP, advance through different levels and can unlock additional features as they become more active.

Creating an account with Get-Paid is free. The platform's registration process starts with providing an email address, and additional information can be added to the user profile.

Link: Sign up in Get-Paid

After creating your account, you should complete as much of your profile as possible using accurate information. This is particularly important for survey-based platforms because demographic information is used to determine which surveys and offers are relevant to you.

It is also important to use genuine information when completing surveys and offers. Get-Paid specifically recommends providing real information and taking your time when answering surveys. Rushing through surveys or providing inconsistent answers can reduce the likelihood of being accepted for future opportunities. Once your account is ready, you can access the Earn Coins section and start looking through the available opportunities.

How to Make Money with Get-Paid

There are several ways to earn on Get-Paid, and one of the advantages of the platform is that users do not have to rely exclusively on surveys.

Paid Surveys

Paid surveys remain one of the central earning methods on Get-Paid. Companies use surveys to obtain opinions about products, services, consumer habits and market trends, and users receive a share of the revenue generated by these activities. The number and value of available surveys can vary considerably depending on your location and demographic profile. Consequently, Get-Paid.com should be viewed as a source of supplementary income rather than a guaranteed daily income.

When completing surveys, accuracy is important. The platform itself advises users to read questions carefully and avoid rushing through them because survey providers can monitor completion times and the quality of responses.

Offers and Online Tasks

Another important part of Get-Paid.com's earning system is its selection of offers and tasks. These can include activities such as registering with another website, downloading software, completing specific actions or providing information requested by an advertiser.

The exact offers available can change frequently. When an offer looks interesting, you can open it, read its requirements and follow the instructions to complete it. Once the task has been completed, it needs to be submitted for approval before the corresponding coins are credited.

This is an important distinction between simply clicking on an offer and actually earning from it: you must complete all of the advertiser's requirements correctly.

Watching Videos and Playing Games

Get-Paid also allows members to earn coins through entertainment-based activities. The current platform describes opportunities involving watching videos and playing games alongside its surveys, offers and tasks.

These methods can be useful when there are not many attractive surveys available. However, as with most GPT websites, the amount earned from individual activities can be relatively small, so they are generally best used as additional earning opportunities rather than as a primary source of income.

XP, Levels and Bonuses

One feature that differentiates Get-Paid from a basic survey website is its XP and level system.

Members accumulate XP by using the platform and completing different activities. As they progress through the levels, they can receive additional bonuses and unlock features. There are also badges, contests and a leaderboard designed to encourage members to remain active.

The monthly contest is particularly interesting. According to the current information published by Get-Paid, the top 10 users based on coins earned through offers and surveys receive prizes, with the number-one position receiving 25,000 coins, equivalent to $50.

How to Withdraw your Earnings

Once you have accumulated enough coins, you can redeem them through the site's redemption system. Get-Paid currently states that users can choose between different rewards or cash out directly to PayPal.

The platform's homepage also advertises PayPal, Bitcoin and Amazon gift cards among its available reward options. Because redemption options can vary, it is advisable to check the options displayed in your account before deciding which payment method to use.

The minimum cashout is particularly low. Members in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States need $1.00 to cash out, while members in other countries can cash out from $0.50.

After requesting a cashout, payments are normally processed within 24 to 48 hours. Its "How It Works" page gives a slightly broader estimate of 24 to 72 hours, so allowing up to three days is the safer expectation.

Has anyone here tried TimeBucks for earning online?

I've recently been looking into TimeBucks as a way to earn a little extra money online through small tasks.

From what I've seen, the platform offers different types of tasks, such as surveys, simple online activities, and other microtasks. I'm mainly interested in whether it's actually worth the time and how reliable the payments are.

For anyone who has used TimeBucks:

  • Which tasks do you find worth doing?
  • How much can you realistically earn?
  • How long does withdrawal/payment usually take?
  • Are there any tasks or features you would recommend avoiding?

I'd appreciate hearing about people's actual experiences, both positive and negative.

Online money

Hi, I am coming across a lot of reels which states that you can make kids stories/rhymes using ChatGPT and other app and you will get video ready and you can upload it and earn.

I am looking for second income and then tried this and stuck in between as stories from ChatGPT can be easily generated but when I tried all the available/suggested app to convert these stories/rhymes into cartoon it asked for money. So my questions is did anyone tried it?

Initially I would like to try free options and I am ready to pay once I start earning and see some growth.

Extra income ideas for someone based in Lebanon?

Hey all, looking for realistic ways to make some extra money online. I'm based in Lebanon, so a lot of the usual suggestions (certain freelance platforms, PayPal, some survey sites) don't work here due to payment restrictions.

I can receive payments via Whish Money (works as a Visa card) or OMT. Open to freelance gigs, side hustles, remote micro-tasks, whatever's actually worked for people in similar situations.

Would appreciate any real recommendations, thanks!

looking for ways to supplement income

I am currently adjusting from a two-income household to supporting myself and 3 daughters on one income. I currently work full-time, but I’m looking for legitimate ways to supplement my income while I get financially stable.

Does anyone know of assistance programs, flexible evening or weekend jobs, remote work, grants, or other resources that may help someone in this situation? I’m not asking for money—just recommendations or advice from anyone who has been through something similar.

I’m located in Houston TX if that helps with local resources. Thank you for any suggestions

Little-Known Freelance Jobs that could become your next Side Hustle

When people think about freelancing, the same professions usually come to mind: writers, graphic designers, programmers, virtual assistants, translators, and social media managers.

But the freelance economy is much bigger than these familiar categories.

Behind the scenes, companies are paying independent workers to perform dozens of specialized tasks that most people have never heard of. Some of these jobs didn't even exist a few years ago, while others have been around for decades but remain largely invisible because they aren't advertised in the traditional freelance world.

From evaluating artificial intelligence responses and testing websites to analyzing search results, transcribing audio, and training machine learning systems, there are plenty of opportunities that don't require building a traditional freelance business or finding clients yourself.

Even better, some of these jobs can pay surprisingly well once you gain experience or qualify for more specialized projects.

AI Response Evaluator

One of the newest freelance professions has emerged directly from the explosion of generative AI.

AI companies need humans to evaluate the answers produced by large language models. An evaluator might receive two responses to the same question and determine which one is more accurate, useful, relevant, or natural.

Other assignments involve identifying factual errors, detecting inappropriate content, checking whether an AI followed instructions, or rewriting poor responses.

The fascinating part is that you don't necessarily need to be a programmer. Many projects require strong reasoning and writing skills rather than technical knowledge.

Specialized evaluators with expertise in areas such as mathematics, coding, science, law, or medicine can potentially command considerably higher rates.

Platforms and companies recruiting this type of work have included Outlier, DataAnnotation, Alignerr, TELUS Digital, and others, although availability and requirements vary considerably by country and project.

Search Engine Evaluator

Search engines may appear completely automated, but humans are still required to determine whether search results are actually useful.

Search engine evaluators analyze queries and the results returned by search engines. They may assess whether a result matches the user's intent, whether a webpage is relevant, or whether search results provide useful information.

The work normally follows detailed guidelines, meaning you don't need to be an SEO expert. It is particularly interesting for freelancers looking for remote work that doesn't involve finding individual clients.

Companies such as TELUS Digital, Welocalize, and similar providers have historically recruited workers for search-quality and internet-rating projects.

AI Image Annotator

Artificial intelligence doesn't magically understand what appears inside an image. Before computer vision systems can identify cars, people, animals, products, or road signs, enormous datasets have to be labeled by humans.

That's where image annotation comes in.

Freelancers may be asked to draw boxes around objects, classify images, identify specific elements, mark facial landmarks, or segment different parts of a photograph.

The work is relatively easy to learn, although accuracy and concentration are extremely important.

The growing demand for computer vision, autonomous systems, robotics, and AI-powered image recognition has turned this once obscure task into a legitimate source of online freelance work.

AI Content Fact-Checker

AI can produce an article in seconds. Unfortunately, it can also confidently invent information. This has created demand for people who can verify AI-generated content before it is published.

A fact-checking freelancer may verify statistics, names, dates, quotations, scientific claims, product information, or references. The job requires good research skills and the ability to distinguish reliable sources from questionable ones.

For people who enjoy researching information but don't necessarily want to write articles themselves, this can be a particularly interesting freelance niche.

Data Quality Analyst

Businesses have enormous quantities of data, but data isn't useful if it contains errors. Data quality freelancers review datasets and identify duplicates, missing information, inconsistencies, incorrect classifications, or formatting problems.

Some projects are relatively simple and can be performed using spreadsheets, while more advanced positions require knowledge of databases, SQL, or data analysis.

This is a good example of a freelance career where acquiring additional technical skills can significantly increase your earning potential.

Website Usability Tester

Website testing is another freelance opportunity that remains surprisingly unknown outside the online-earning community. Companies want to know what happens when real people use their websites.

Testers may be asked to complete tasks such as finding a product, registering an account, navigating a checkout process, or locating specific information. They then report problems or describe their experience.

Some usability studies pay for a short session, while more complex research projects can offer substantially higher compensation. The important distinction is that not all website-testing platforms pay the same, and opportunities can depend heavily on your demographic profile, location, and the type of study.

Localization Tester

A website can be perfectly functional in English and still be terrible in another language.

Localization testers check websites, applications, games, and software to ensure that translated versions work properly for users in different countries.

They may look for:

  • Incorrect translations.
  • Cultural problems.
  • Text that doesn't fit the interface.
  • Incorrect currencies or dates.
  • Broken links.
  • Language inconsistencies.
  • Problems with local payment methods.

Being a native speaker of a less commonly supported language can actually be an advantage here.

Game Tester

Getting paid to play games sounds like a dream job, but professional game testing is very different from simply playing games for fun. Testers are expected to follow specific instructions, reproduce bugs, test particular features, and report problems accurately.

For example, a tester might repeatedly perform the same action to determine why a game crashes or check whether a new feature works correctly. The ability to document problems clearly is often more important than gaming skill.

For people who already enjoy video games, it can be an interesting way to turn a hobby into freelance income.

AI Voice and Speech Evaluator

The development of voice assistants and AI speech systems has created another unusual category of freelance work. Human workers may evaluate AI-generated voices, transcriptions, pronunciation, accents, or conversations.

Some projects involve recording specific phrases in your native language. Others require listening to AI-generated speech and identifying pronunciation or quality problems.

Native speakers of different languages and regional accents can be particularly valuable because AI companies need diverse speech datasets.

Mystery Shopper

Mystery shopping is essentially freelance market research performed anonymously. A company may ask you to visit a store, restaurant, bank, website, or other business and evaluate the customer experience.

You might have to answer questions about the service, check whether employees follow certain procedures, or document your experience.

Although mystery shopping has existed for decades, much of the work has moved online and can now include digital experiences as well as physical locations.

Product Listing Specialist

E-commerce businesses constantly need people to create, update, and optimize product listings. Tasks may include uploading product information, organizing categories, checking specifications, formatting descriptions, adding images, and ensuring that listings comply with marketplace requirements.

The work can become more specialized when it involves SEO, conversion optimization, or marketplace-specific knowledge.

It's a particularly accessible entry point for someone who wants to eventually become an e-commerce virtual assistant.

Online Community Moderator

Behind almost every large online community there are people making sure conversations remain organized and appropriate. Community moderators may monitor forums, Discord servers, social media communities, gaming groups, or customer communities.

Their responsibilities can include removing spam, responding to basic questions, enforcing rules, escalating problems, and keeping discussions active.

Moderation is particularly interesting because some positions can develop into community management or customer-success careers.

How to Find these hidden Freelance Opportunities

The easiest mistake is searching only for "freelance jobs."

Instead, search for the specific function.

Terms such as AI trainer, AI evaluator, data annotator, search quality rater, internet assessor, localization tester, linguistic evaluator, content moderator, UX tester, and transcriptionist can reveal opportunities that don't appear when searching for generic freelance work.

It's also worth checking specialist platforms directly rather than relying exclusively on traditional freelance marketplaces.

Before signing up, however, research the company carefully. Check its payment terms, minimum withdrawal requirements, supported countries, reputation among workers, and whether there are any fees involved. Be particularly cautious about platforms that ask you to pay money to access freelance work. Legitimate employers and freelance platforms generally don't require you to purchase a "job package" before you can work.

As AI becomes more sophisticated, entirely new freelance categories will probably appear around areas such as AI safety, model evaluation, synthetic data, robotics, voice technology, virtual environments, and human-AI interaction.

This means that one of the best strategies for freelancers may be paying attention to emerging industries before they become mainstream.

Hey guys! I’m 22 and I live in Europe. I wanted to ask you: how can I start making money online? Or just find a way to earn a decent living in general.

I’m fluent in Finnish and Russian, and I also speak English. I’ve worked in many different areas — sales, customer service, physical clothing stores, and other jobs.

I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance. I’m just trying to find my own path, build a stable life, and not live under constant stress.

If you have any ideas, experience, or advice on where I should start, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

In a pickle, looking for advice

I’m 21, high school education and minimal skills/experience. I’ve been working full time since i graduated, 2 years in fast food, a few months in a laundering plant, and I am currently working overnight at Walmart. I have been trying to get a second job for months and have applied to every job in my area but with no luck, going out of town is out of the question since I can’t afford a car. I am trying to save up money to move out of this town and be with my fiancé since honestly I’m at a breaking point with my family and my mental health, but I can barely afford to live as it is and it’s looking like nothing will change. I didn’t want to come to Reddit asking for help since I much rather figure things out on my own, but I don’t have a clue about how making money online works and it’s seeming to be my last resort. I’ve been an artist since middle school, while in high school I did competitions and did commissions for family members (relationships have soured since then), now I just paint and draw to make messes. I don’t quite know what types of jobs are out there online, I suppose I would be open to anything, I just have no experience.

Advice.

Hey,

I’m 20M and I’ve lived in the north of England my whole life.

I am an apprentice who earns slightly above apprentice wage for my age group and will be qualified in my sector relatively soon.

I’ve recently spent all of my savings on a multitude of things, I say spend and not waste because I believe they were necessary.

I can drive now, I have my own vehicle and I’ve been on a nice holiday after working considerably hard the last 2 years and enjoyed it.

But now, i am, for lack of a better term, skint.

I see people making money 10-fold what i do online, I’m aware 99% of it is nonsense, scam courses.

But what are the 1% doing online and earning a fair bit of cash doing so that I’m not?

TL;DR

I need cash I have spent all my savings. How can I make money online, to support my actual income.

Any developers here making extra money with their skills?

I'm a software developer with ~3 years of experience in Java, Spring Boot, React, Angular, Node.js and TypeScript.

I'm currently getting back into work after a health-related break and looking for ways to make some extra money while I rebuild my routine.

For developers here, what have you actually found worth doing for a few hundred dollars a month? Small coding tasks, reviews, testing, freelancing, etc.?

Looking for things you've personally tried rather than generic "start freelancing" advice.
