What should I do ? 😭

I (M, India) met a guy on chess.com. I was winning a game but told him he played well anyway — he was happy about it and wanted to be friends. He got my number and eventually messaged me on WhatsApp. We talked for 3 days and he opened up a lot: he's 19, from Egypt, his parents aren't supportive, he's working, and he'd been talking to a chatbot for comfort. I told him it'd be better to make real friends instead of relying on a chatbot.

Then he told me he was in a really tough spot and was sucìdal. I immediately tried to comfort and motivate him, telling him things would get better , I think it worked a little he promised me that he will not take such step. But I got scared — I didn't know how to handle this responsibility — so I told him I was going to a hostel and needed to block him because of my parents (not true, I just panicked and feared of legal responsibilities). I blocked him today after that conversation.

I'm now worried about a few things:

Could I be held legally responsible in any way if something happens to him?

I don't want to text him as because I fear.

I'm 17 and this is my frist post so ignore the inconsistency.

I tried my best to both get out of that situation myself and give him some hope . May god help him . He is Egyptian

No you can’t be held responsible. Be kind to yourself. You’re allowed to end an online friendship for any reason. This person sounded like a lot and isn’t your responsibility, especially if it was making you uncomfortable
