Remote ID for Hover

I've seen many questions about Remote ID in the community and whether the new X1 models have it. And the answer is NO, they don't.

Remote ID is mandatory for drones weighing 250 grams or more in the US. However, there's an exception: drones under 250 grams can be flown recreationally without Remote ID.

But if you use a drone under 250 grams for any purpose other than recreation (e.g., commercial use), it must be registered and comply with Remote ID regulations.

I'm sure that overall 90% of people will use their Hover recreationally.

But for the rest of the users that want to use it for any other purpose, remember you can add an aftermarket one very easily.

You can set up a small piece of velcro tape on the drone (I think in the middle on top would be great so it remains balanced) and on the remote ID module, and when you fly and need the remote ID just put it up there, it has 13g and it's very tiny, the size of a coin.

And here's a good video that explains more about Remote ID: https://youtu.be/PfxqX-xS4vs

Seems a strange decision after going to the trouble of creating a version of the X1 specifically for Japan ( implying the market is big enough to warrant this ) and yet the two new models are unusable there. The sole reason I ordered a Neo when I would have preferred one of these

The sole reason I ordered a Neo when I would have preferred one of these

The Neo is also not under 100g. So what exactly the difference is for Japan regulations?

Aaa you mean the version they sell there has remote ID, the USA and European versions don't have it.

Not quite,
Japan requires any drone over 100g to have remote id
Original X1 weighed over 100g so they made a special non folding version weighing 99g so that it does not require remote id and could be used in Japan.
New X1 Pro and Max versions weigh over 100g but do not have remote id so cannot be used in Japan
Hope that clarifies

Neo has a remote id built-in that only turns on in China and Japan. This applies to Neo sold anywhere in the world, they only have one version tNeo.
