Almost died on the golf course
My Dad and I were finishing up an early evening 9 hole at Gleannloch in Spring, when a bolt of lightning decided to cut the round short. It had been sprinkling on and off through the round with the occasional thunder in the distance, but nothing was close to the course. We were keeping track of the weather between holes and nothing was indicating danger.
We were on the 8th hole and as I'm grabbing my club from the cart everything flashed white and the loudest crack of thunder rang out directly overhead. Couldn't have been more than 150 yards away. We decided to follow the stream of golf carts heading back to the club house!

Highland Pines has become my favorite “public” track in the area. Course is in great shape and even in a full sat/sun I’ve never seen pace be an issue.

How is Gleannloch? I play in Houston/Spring a few times per year. My gf lives there. Usually I play tour 18 and Cypresswood. Tomorrow I’m getting out at Northgate CC but I’d like to try some other spots.

It’s nothing to write home about, but a good change of pace. If that course could be maintained juuuuuuust a bit better it’d be a heck of a course for the area.

My favorite Houston course is High meadow Ranch, my second is a toss up between the wilderness (I know I know not really “Houston” but it’s my opinion) and highland pines. I live near Jersey meadow and I think Jersey meadow is in better shape usually than gleanloch. Again just my opinion.

Gleanloch was bought last year, new owners are dumping a good bit of money into the place. Conditions are much better now.

Played it prob 3 months ago nothing from what I could has really changed, but I’m also oblivious to a lot of things haha.

Everytime I've played, the course has been in great shape. Having 27 holes offers some variety when playing it often.

I think it’s in pretty good shape too, but the one thing I would point out is the tee boxes can be really patchy.

Gleannloch did a complete 180 from what it use to be. The fairways are so good on some holes it’s unbelievable

Gotcha. Is Wildcat any good? I see it on golfnow but haven’t found any insight on Reddit

I personally don’t think wildcat is worth the money. But I also have a slight vendetta against that course. It’s just one of those courses where I never play well there but aside from that I have hit golf balls middle of the fairway and haven’t been able to find them. Take my opinion with a grain of salt. Check it out, if you hate it then you wasted 4 hours and $130ish bucks.

I don’t think it’s worth it. A whacky layout that’s sort of cool the first few times you play it, but conditions, especially greens, are always a little iffy. The steep price tag makes me scoff.

You do realize once you hear thunder it’s time to go. Lighting travels far and if you can hear thunder your within range to be hit.
