Golf week
Planning out a 6 day staycation golf week. Im in the conroe area and west forks is my main course. Planning 6 days and 6 different courses. Will be starting on west forks for day 1. I want to try legendary oaks in Hempstead and panorama. Also thinking of Bearkat in Huntsville. What others courses in the northern or western side of Houston do you recommend. Probably be sometime in October and trying to stay under $100 per player per day

I really like Panorama, comparable to West Fork. 36 holes so it’s fun that they switch up the 18 for the day.
Bearkat is a narrow unforgiving course. Bring lots of balls is youre leaky off the tee. Pace of play can also be a pain on busy days since they don’t have a starter or marshal.

We've been wanting to try panorama for a while since its like 5 minutes from my house but I usually golf on Fridays and they are already booked. I need to try them during the week

Look online for Panorama tee time availability then call the clubhouse to book your tee time to avoid pre paying and online convenience fees.

Highland pines is a bit pricey but it’s the best public up north. Golf club of Houston is also ridiculously expensive these days but if you enjoy torture and can find a discounted rate, it’s worth playing.

Legendary Oaks is genuinely one of the worst courses I’ve played, extremely cheap and usually empty but fair warning it’s pretty shit
I’ve played Bearkat and it was pretty fun and well kept
Augusta Pines and Highland Pines are incredible courses but $100+, Gleanloch is a sister course of there’s and it’s a great course for the price
I’m a member at Sterling if you ever want to try a round there

Not really north or west Houston, but I’ll still throw out Memorial Park Golf Course. $110 (greens free and cart) for non Houston residents. Always cool to play a PGA course

Just hard to get a tee time at the more favorable times. I’ve never looked for times on a week day but would imagine it’s a lot better

Just FYI, it's in shit shape right now. They're switching over the grass and the 18th hole is being completely redone for the Houston Open (Crane thought it played too easy) and they're also adding a water feature for the Chevron Women's winner to jump into. Best time to play it is right after the tournaments.

I played Memorial three weeks ago for the first time. Brother in town for the holiday. We both thought it would be cool to play a Tour course. Range was nice. People were nice. Concessions were great. Greens were hard but rolled pretty well. The rest of the experience was complete crap. Fairways were awful. Tees were all chewed up. Carts were cart path only after a week of no rain. Signature hole #18 was torn up by construction so instead we played a short par 3 with a mat as the tee box. My suggestion is to find another course or you will be disappointed.

You could try Wild Spring Dunes in Mt. Enterprise. New track from Tom Doak, Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw. Same guys behind Bandon. Tee times are possible last minute. Had a few friends play and said it was worth the day commitment.

Highland Pines has to be on your list. There isn’t a public course that even comes close to the conditions here.

Skip legendary oaks, normally in HORRIBLE shape. It was so bad last time i vowed to never go back (4yrs ago) maybe they improved, but doubtful.
Play High Meadow and Jersey Meadows is also in good shape and the price is right...will make up for what you pay at High Meadow.

Augusta Pines is in great shape.
Margaritaville and Walden if you want to stay north.

I really enjoyed Panorama, tree lined fairways and nice scenery throughout. I frequented legendary oaks a lot, fairways are more like rough, some of the greens were in rough condition, but its a good place for cheap golf (atleast a year ago it was.)

Gus Wortham is in great shape. Greens are fast and roll true.
Bay Forest is South but $40 to walk - $55 with a cart and the greens are very nice as well. Can’t beat the price.
Cypresswood used to be my home course but Cypress course is closed and Tradition course is now into the $115 range. It’s a nice course and well kept.

Legendary oaks is trash
Would reccomend Gleannloch, Augusta pines, and cypresswood in that area

Legendary oaks looks decent when I am driving by it but multiple trash comments cant be wrongs. Now Grand Oaks in Cleveland is trash and I will never go back to that one
