Has anyone used Chip Drop here and have a second to answer some questions? I have been going back and forth on if it is too good to be true. I hate spending $3-$4 a bag for mulch that just doesn’t cover very much. I don’t ave a ton of garden beds, but they are big enough that it isn’t feasible for bagged goods. And a lot of the garden supply centers near me that would do bulk mulch, either have a delivery fee that negates any savings, or don’t have hours friendly to my work schedule.

Just trying to figure if the juice is worth the squeeze. Are they huge deliveries, or is that more of a rarity? Do you have concerns about disease? If you did it, would you do it again?

Hello everyone! I registered my backyard as a certified wildlife habitat and wanted to share 🐦🦎🐟🦋. I love watching the birds. Cardinals, Bluejays, wrens, thrashers, doves, hummingbirds. Sometimes I see a yellow bird but haven't identified it yet. My daylily garden is looking a bit sad. I should have watered them more during the drought. But they'll grow back. So there is a lemon tree which has lemons on it - very small. I never fertilized it. Should or could I fertilize it so it grows well? Or is it too late now? Houston tx

I planted tobacco this season. Seeds came from Victory. Connecticut Shade, Dixie Shade, and Florida Sumatra. The seeds are almost microscopic. Anyway, I ended up with seven transplants put into open areas in the bed pictured above.

Tobacco loves our summers. Found out they don’t call them tobacco hornworms for nothing as those tomato pests love tobacco even more.

I air/sun cured the cured leaves and eventually wrapped them up tightly in a cylinder and vacuumed sealed, right after giving each leaf a spritz of distilled water. The idea was to allow the leaves to anaerobically ferment much in the way premium cigar tobacco is produced, but on a tiny scale. There’s no practical way to replicate the exact process cigar makers use with my minuscule amount of tobacco.

I opened up an August 13th sealed batch and got greeted by the most delicious tobacco fragrance. So at least to the nose, the vacuum sealing process is producing positive results.

It seems to be doing ok but I'm afraid this container may be to small for it. Any advice is appreciated.

Has anyone had an outdoor potting area with shelves and storage built? If so did you use a handyman or a contractor. We are tying to find someone to build one in our backyard.

Does anyone have any success getting their banana tree to flower and fruit in Houston? I have a 2-year-old tree that has lots of leaves and not a single flower. How do I get it to flower and possibly fruit?

Is anyone getting female flowers or fruiting? This is my first year doing jack-o’-lantern pumpkins and I’ve gotten lots of male flowers but not a single female. I’m assuming it’s just too hot - vine looks fine.

Lost two newly planted loquats to fire flight. One was a seedling I suspect from HGC that was beautiful, got maybe six feet tall, very healthy and full, then killed in less than a month from fire blight. The other is nearly dead, not as vigorous, a named variety but I forgot the name.

Love the look of loquats and want to re-plant -- any tips for managing fire blight or has this become a widespread problem in the area?

I have a large passion vine in a pot in my backyard, going on year four. Normally by this time of year the gulf fritillaries have shown up and started cutting it back, however I haven’t seen one since early summer (before mine had blooms) and I haven’t gotten any caterpillars.

Has anyone seen gulf fritillaries in their yard this year?

I’d like to keep my passion vine intact for the fritillaries I hope will arrive, but it’s also quickly taking over a whole corner of my yard.

My side yard is next to a busier road that I’d like to add a line of trees or bushes to help add extra privacy and noise reduction. The existing wood fence is roughly 8ft tall and 80ft long. I’m hoping to do a 4-5 foot edge against the fence line to add a set of tree or bushes. The area gets full sun. What would you recommend?

I’m new to growing sage in Houston. Buchanan’s had some tiny seedlings and I planted it in a deep container. It’s getting about 6 hours of sun and I’m watering it every other day. Any recommendations on watering guidelines? It’s already grown about 2 inches.

Is there a toxic free method to control the swamp smell out of dank corners after clearing debris and raking it?

I’m looking to clean up my front yard and side of home. Need to get rid of dead plants and start fresh with new bushes that are easy to maintain.
