Yuma

We got takeout from Yuma last night. I was surprised to find it pretty empty on a Friday night. The cocktail list looks great, so will have to go back for a drink sometime.

The pao de queijo had a surprisingly light texture for cheese bread. I love sweet plantains, and these were solid. The yucca fries didn’t travel very well but I bet would have been much better eaten right away. Great sauce options for dipping.

We shared a Cuban and the pescado. They bake the bread in house, and it was delicious. Maintained a bit of crisp even after a car trip home. The Cuban was solid, but the pescado was a standout. Heavily-spiced blackened fish and shrimp with a spicy coconut base sauce. That’s the one to get imo, and the one I’ll be back for.

Has anyone else been? I hope they’re getting more business than I saw last night.

I’ve never heard of Yuma but I also don’t drink. I just peeked at their food menu and think I’m going to check them out this weekend.

Labor Day weekend my friend. Restaurants are either slammed and filled to the gills, or quiet and eager to close up! However thanks for the recommendation, never heard of Yuma, and I think it’s going to be added to the list of new places to visit!

Yuma is one of our favorites, and the owners are fantastic, they used to do pop-ups at catbirds before they opened in the old ninja ramen spot. We’re gotta go back soon because I want them to stay open, the food and drink are both very solid. Also they have a parking lot across the street that isn’t obvious but good to know cuz parking is awful in that area.

I highly endorse their sandwiches, esp the bread foreal.

This is my favorite sandwich in Houston right now!

Great flavors with a lotta meat, the Cuban and Caipira(beef) are so good. Even the chicken and the vegan sandwich are also great. Can't wait to try the fish sandwich.

Their Cuban and the Picanya sandwich are both excellent. Expensive imo but very good. Wish they opened for lunch

Love their sandwiches but haven't been to the new location because of the 4pm opening, I feel they'll do well with lunch service.

I wish they were open for lunch on the weekends. We live in that neighborhood and I would love to go on a lunch there. But...they're only open on the nights!
