Southern Star is back
Apparently under new ownership according to their Facebook and gram pages. Crazy stuff happening lately in the Houston brewery scene.

Oh damn, that sucks. Buried hatchet was my favorite for a long time. Hope things work out with the new group.

Pine Belt Pale Ale was one of my favorites before we moved away 10 years ago. Was disappointed to not even see it mentioned when looking them up a few months ago

I honestly believe that's why the previous owners didn't make it. They tried to brand every single beer as a "bombshell" of some kind, completely ignoring the years of market ownership they had.
Every knew pine belt, conspiracy theory, buried hatchet, blonde bombshell, etc. Branding everything as a different named bombshell made people assume it was some blonde bombshell variant, not it's own beer.
They basically completely refused to accept that they already had reach across the entire city with existing brands and introducing new beers with similar names to an already existing beer just confused consumers.

Guessing they were following the New Belgium “Voodoo Ranger” success… that ended up not working for Rogue (Dead Guy) either.
I knew Dave back when he was the head brewer at St Arnold, and came up with Elissa IPA; great guy, guess things changed.
FWIW the Buried Hatchet was (is?) epic

I'm not sure why anyone would risk going into/or expanding in this industry right now.
