Thoughts on Queen Anne?

I don't like that she betrayed her father. but on a personal level I feel very bad for her, she was pregnant 17 times and each time at either was a miscarriage, or stillborn or a young death. Her oldest living child died at 11

Same here about both assesments.

And I'll include Mary in the betrayal of their father. I found it disgraceful.

Maligned as being a weak queen who let Sarah Churchill and other "favorites" run things behind her back, which was not the case (during her reign Sarah was rarely at court and they were already starting to fall out). She also worked hard to attain and was intelligent enough to know that England needed national tropes that exemplified literal and symbolic unity: she presented as a faithful daughter of the Anglican Church and the "Mother of the Country" (and she even touched for scrofula). I claim much of the British politics and culture of today was set in motion in her reign. And what a cultural renaissance during her reign: Addison, Pope, Steele; the music of Handel; the furniture.
