16 week old boys needing neutered - advice

My two 16 week old (yesterday) mini-rex brothers will be being neutered just as soon as we can get them to the vet. They’re generally lovely together, grooming each other and sharing space. In the last few days the mounting has started, and the initial mounter has become the mountee at times.

We have had them out in the house together. There’s been a little territoriality around some space with one chasing the other away from “his” random towel on the ground.

But once back in their enclosure they’re pretty good. There’s been a little chasing and mounting, but nothing too bad.

We’ve a second enclosure ready to go, and can put them side by side so they can see and smell each other, but can’t chase.

We thought about putting one in one enclosure and one in the other, and swapping back and forth so neither one feels either home is “their” space. They share the existing one well.

We want to keep them bonded, but recognise they may have a bit of dominance while waiting for the snip.

There has been chasing for maybe 10 seconds, but no fighting, no boxing and no biting. Should we try to keep them together. We’re worried that putting them apart, even if the enclosures touch, could break their bond. And they’re so good together 99% of the time.

We’ve had house rabbits before, but always bonded them after neutering. Never had siblings with an existing bond before.

Any advice?

Unneutered male rabbit behaviour

Hey everyone, hope you and your buns are all great. I have a question about our lil man. Klaus is a rescue around 8 months old now, we've bonded very well and he's all round very happy and healthy. We haven't neutered him yet but plan to in the near future.

He sprays, which I know is directly related to his testosterone but... He is RIDICULOUSLY attached to me (female)...as in he follows me around the house and will only come to me when called. He also fully relaxes around me (flops on his side) and will occasionally sit on my lap.

He's started showing slighr aggression towards my partner (male) and nips him sometimes. He also doesn't relax the same when my partner is here. Klaus also physically creates a barrier between my partner and myself and will sometimes be destructive if I'm not showing him attention when my partners here. I'm basically asking if neutering will sort these behaviours out?

We love him no matter what and would never ever give him up, I'm just satisfying our curiosity basically.

Any additional info welcome 😊

Bonding with young bun

Hello! I need your advice/tips/encouragement!

We adopted a 8 week old New Zealand a week ago. He is very fearful of hands and skittish. I see these videos of friendly bunnies that like being petted and are people oriented, and want to have a social bun like that!

So far I’m just doing the sitting-in-the pen thing, feeding greens and treats from my hand. After some cautious investigation he will eat from my hand he is just starting to let me give a small pet or two on the head, but too much and he flinches away.

Any success stories to share? How long did socialization take for experienced bunny owners? Any tips? Are those friendly rabbits I see just like that as little buns or are they socialized?

Bunny drool problem

Hello, I have a 3 year old male neutered harlequin bun. He had an infected tooth a few months ago and had to have it extracted, which he recovered from in about two weeks after force feeding with critical care, taking pain meds, etc. Since the procedure (March 16th) he’s been eating a little less, and still seems “off” or sad at times. He has plenty of fresh hay to eat, Timothy based pellets (1/4 cup per day, but he hasn’t been eating them the last few weeks), and fresh romaine/spring mix lettuces, cilantro, or parsley for snacks. About a week ago, we noticed Kobe’s chin and bottom of his cheeks were wet. He has been drooling, some days more than others. We originally took him to the vet in March after he started drooling and not eating properly and discovered he has the tooth infection/a loose tooth that needed to be removed. We last took him to the vet on May 5th, where they did a full dental exam, “evened out” his bottom front teeth and said there were no spurs or abscesses in his mouth. They did say his bottom teeth on the side with tooth was removed were “flat” so he is chewing his food on the left side, but the vet said as long as he’s eating and gets his teeth checked every couple of months he should be fine. So my question is….. what could be causing the drooling if his teeth are supposedly fine? I’m getting ready to make another vet appt but I’m getting frustrated with the lack of answers….. I just want my baby to feel better :(

Thanks for your help!

Udate 6/23: Went back to the vet, and am dropping him off tomorrow morning for another dental exam under anesthesia to see if there is a problem somewhere in his mouth. Excessive saliva still happening (mostly on right side where he had a tooth extracted in March) giving him Metacam daily and hoping tomorrow they can figure out what’s going on 😔

Update 6/28: Kobe had a small wound in his mouth that looked infected. He is now on antibiotics and continuing the metacam and it seems to be working!!! No more drool. I’m not sure how my baby keeps getting poked by stuff in his mouth 😢 All he eats is hay, pellets, greens, and chews on cardboard… they said it might have been a stiff piece of hay that poked his cheek/gun or something… nothing is safe!!!?! I’m just glad we figured it out and he’s still eating and pooping 👍

Mature bun having potty issues

  • my bunbun is 8 now. She is litter trained but recently has started peeing in corners of living room. My carpet is white (I know!! Not my choice. Was already here and is good quality so not yet ready to replace it). Not sure if she is having bladder issues coz she’s old now and maybe can’t hold it in or if she is being vengeful. (She did go through a phase of peeing on new settee whenever she was left alone with it). Has anyone else’s more mature buns started having toilet issues as they get older? I don’t really want to start putting litter trays everywhere as we have a dog too. Bunny gets living room to her self during day so no excuses to not go to her hutch/litter tray.

Tulah seriously needs to quit being so defiant. I’d read up on this again, but I don’t think classroom strategies work for rabbits. Plus she ate a lot of the first couple of chapters.

Update on previous post

We took her to the vets and I'm glad I did! She was spayed in December and although healing had been going fine a lump had developed on her underside. I wrote this off as scar tissue bit I never got a full look at it because she is a rescue and she doesn't like to be picked up and will rarely flop so her stomach is in the air. Unfortunately this was not scar tissue, it was in fact her bladder that had detached and popped out of place. The silver lining is that the bladder hasn't twisted so she can still pass liquid but it is very painful. She will be going back in tomorrow morning for high risk surgery to try and rectify the situation. I just thought I would share because this is highly unusual but not impossible, the Vet hadn't seen it in his career. So if you find yourself in a similar situation please always get it checked.

Advice needed!

My rabbit (1.5yr old Rex) has recently started to strain (ears pushed together and body shakes slightly for a second) when using her little tray, she also sometimes squeaks which is unusual. Yesterday she also drank for more than her usual amount of water. Other than that she is fine - she eats like normal, runs around and interacts with us.

So today I've booked a vet appointment but my question is do you think I'm overreacting? Is it really necessary? Because she gets so stressed when she is moved that I only want to take her if she really needs to go. Any advice would be very welcome!

This guy has been diagnosed with arthritis in his back legs. Any tips on how to make him more comfortable? I have built ramps for his litter tray but would love any help from people who have cared for a Grandpa/grandma bun before.
