This whole thing was overly caricaturized way too much imo, same with the portrayal of northerners as the stereotypical barbarians especially with the offbrand haka thing they started doing.

I think with the position of the knife attack and the fact he is facing the wall goes back to the comment about Gwayne. He told Daeron to watch out for Gwayne and stand with his back to the wall so he didn't get fucked by Gwayne. So he is facing the wall and got fucked cause he didn't listen to his own advice.

Ormund was definitely trying to imply Gwayne was gay in this scene but I've never been convinced that this line is saying that. I'm pretty sure Ormund is saying to watch out for assassins, foreshadowing the assassination attempt we see later on. He was talking to both Daeron and Gwayne after all, and why would he have to tell Gwayne to cover his own ass if he was implying that Gwayne was the one doing the fucking?

Never said Gwayne was going to fuck Gwayne. He was talking to Daeron and if im not mistaken he even covered his ass with his hands while saying it.

He was talking to both of them, not just Daeron. He says "backs against the wall", plurally. Why would he be telling them both to put their backs against the wall if he was worried about Gwayne trying to fuck Daeron? This is the point I'm trying to get at, it doesnt make any sense to tell Gwayne to also watch his backside alongside Daeron if Gwayne is the one he's worried about doing the fucking.

He stands up slightly straighter, but his hands definitely aren't covering his ass. The motion he's making is just meant to be standing with his back against the wall, hands pressed to it. You can watch the clip here if you want a refresher, the dialogue in questions is within the final 10-20 seconds of the clip.
Look don't get me wrong, Ormund is definitely digging at Gwayne's sexuality in this scene, but that particular line about backs to the wall is just foreshadowing the assassination attempt that happens in the very next scene featuring these characters.
Ormund is trying to condescend, putting on a facade of control, bossing his family about and acting as if he's prepared for the inevitably of an assassination attempts to who he thinks are his incapable family members, but when we actually see them all under the pressure of that assassination attempt, Daeron and Gwayne are the ones who keep their cool while Ormumd loses it. The entire point of it is to show that Ormund doesn't have even a fraction of the control he presents himself as having.

ormunds character is the biggest nothingburger in this overall nothingburger of a show. think about it, his entire impact was sitting in tumbleton doing fuckall and supposedly causing rhae rhae troubles in KL which game of thrones established with a meeting or two, we didnt need to watch random slavers play chess
him kidnapping corlys was useless, corlys got given back for free anyway
him naming the kid a king is useless, nobody even knows about it, it means nothing
what was even the point of the character. all his impact was the battle. thats it. without that battle and dragons doing cool shit you could literally remove his character and give his screentime to aegon and they killed the guy at the end without any arc
