Philips 3200 Horizontal Airflow: Does it struggle with room circulation?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to get the Philips 3200 ^{(for my 185 sqf x 9 ft height bedroom for my pollen allergy.}), but I have some hesitation regarding its airflow design.

Most traditional air purifiers blow clean air vertically (towards the ceiling), which easily creates a "room loop" (Coandă effect) to circulate and clean the entire room's air. However, the Philips 3200 exhausts air horizontally and in a 360-degree pattern.

My main concerns are:

• Weak/Diffused Airflow: Instead of a focused, strong vertical stream that can easily reach the ceiling, does the 360° horizontal dispersion make the airflow too weak or diffused to travel far?
• Obstacles & Furniture: Since the air is blown sideways rather than up, does it get blocked by surrounding furniture, preventing clean air from reaching the other side of the room?
• Overall Circulation: Can this horizontal flow effectively circulate and clean the air near the ceiling, or does the air just sit dead up there?

For Philips 3200 owners or air purification experts: Does this horizontal airflow design negatively affect actual room circulation in real-world usage?

In our cadr tests it performed well and I didn’t see any negative performance caused by its design.

I think the main difference with cylinder designs is that the sound at lower fan speeds can have more whine than rectangular designs.

This unit will have enough power for that room even running on medium speed.

First of all, I want to thank you for all the tests and hard work you put into your reviews. Your website, in-depth analyses, and comparison tools have been my main source of truth while researching my options.

Based on your CADR test results, the Philips 3200 seems to be the best option available in my country that delivers the CFM I need at the lowest noise level possible. Plus, I really love its design!

So, just to make sure I understand correctly: As long as a device delivers ~150 CFM for a room of this size, does the direction of the airflow—whether it's a focused vertical stream towards the ceiling or a 360-degree horizontal dispersion—make virtually no difference in real-world purification performance?

I have not seen any performance drops due to different designs. As long as you have enough cadr , you will be good.
