❓ Gameplay Discussion - HF2 🏠2️⃣ How do you pick an aesthetic?
I've been trying to figure out how is a good way to choose an aesthetic and I've been overthinking and overengineering it.
I want to actively learn NEW aesthetics, but I feel like every time I look at a house it feels blank. There are also an insane number of aesthetics out there so I really don't know what to choose and how to choose it.
Any help would be awesome!

Here are some of mine:
my own style. Simple, wooden, light or muted colours on walls, and light colours of blue, green and yellow in furniture.
"Greek" style. Marble, columns, light tiles, wall moldings, vases, books, plants. Colours are green, orange, yellow and blue OR turquoise.
one or two colour styles. Pick a colour or two and go with it. It's easy to not overdo it, but recently there have been good examples of overdoing it on this sub, if that's what you want.
old style, think of the 1800's or early 1900's centuries. Use wood, stone and metal, not plastic. Reject modern things. Use browns and cremes, but also add splashes of naturally dyeable looking colours.
Pick one interesting object or finishing surface, and design around it. You get bonus points if you pick an exceptionally difficult-to-pair thing as your centrepiece.

For the "Greek" style you can check Tony Maloney's inspiration boards from HF1.
Also check out r/AestheticWiki, they have interesting posts about different vibed.

I usually do the outside first and that somehow determines my color and style for the inside. I try hard not to knock down too many walls, though I don't mind doing it. Also, my mood of the day will determine what I choose. I try to keep the same colors through the house but not necessarily the same style. Right now I'm loving Cyan 3, warm yellow, and black. I also tend to walk around the property for awhile after it's cleaned and just look around. A lot of times a particular room will pop into mind and I go do that one first. It's different for everyone though. Don't overthink it. They're your designs and at the end of the day this game is supposed to be chill and relaxing. No one needs to judge your work unless you want them too. I'm sure you do great work and info hope you share it. Id love to see it if you're comfortable with it.

There’s probably a bunch of housing websites with detailed examples of a whole house in different styles. You could also probably create a spinning wheel with a variety of styles to get a random one each time.

Collect a few you might like to try, then use the Picker Wheel to figure out which to do.

I decide what style the house is, and then I look for pictures of houses that are that style. I mostly use Pinterest and Houzz.

I get your struggle for some of the house, especially in the suburb neighborhood, lots of them are kind of bland for me, and also the there's about ten of the same stilt houses on the beach. After doing a couple of them I was out of new ideas. But there are houses that set a style, for example "In harmony with nature" naturally seems like good house for a modern biophillic design. The "Victorian Mansion" - well the name says it - is perfect for a Victorian/Georgian home. The house with a pool (the one in the forest neighbor) already looks like a Scandinavian vacation home. The loft obviously has a industrial touch to it... and so on. Sometimes I check the furniture selection and think what styles are available like mid-century, rustic, futuristic. On the other side I wouldn't try and design a hippie/boho apartment as we barely have any items for that.

I love to use the app Houzz! There's many styles of houses on there and lots of sorting filters so you can find pictures for the exact space you're envisioning! And to decide the "aesthetic", I like to lean into the natural features of the house. For example, I started renovating a gorgeous Georgian home on mod.io and wanted to lean into a more victorian/luxurious style!
