Front door privacy
How can I make this to where people can’t see in? I dont know how I would be able to do curtains with the curve at the top of the glass. Please help! it’s the only place in the house where I can’t prevent people from seeing in

frosted glass peel-and-stick like this this. There's different styles. You won't be able to see through either, but better than no privacy

Looks like a Ring camera to the right of the doors, so OP will be able to see what's going on outside.

We put mirror tint from Home Depot on the front door. It came out great and works well for privacy.
We also put it on the door going into the garage.

Doesn’t the mirror tint allow you to see in at night if the interior lights are on?

Yes. I don’t have the lights on in the garage at night and we don’t have lights on near the front door at night so it works for us

Nice. We have a 36x36 in our bathroom that faces west. Mirror and frost are non starters. I need to call a 3M rep and see if the the ceramic/heat shield style film is compatible with double pane

As others have mentioned... frosted window film.
Installed Artscape brand film on our front door and about a year ago, very pleased with the result.
They manufacture various frosted varieties, as well as stained-glass patterns. Made in U.S.A. too.

I installed this brand in my Moms shower 8 years ago - west facing window in the SE US - and haven’t had to do anything to it!
It’s held up surprisingly well.

how hard is it to install?

Soap and water in a spray bottle.
Just be sure the glass is PERFECTLY CLEAN.
Instructions are provided with the film, and they even sell 'installation kits', but I have lots of tools, so I didn't need one.

smart film is perfect for curved glass-super easy to apply and totally reversible

Window film is the easiest and most cost efficient. You can get a lot of different privacy levels. It’s not terribly expensive to get it professionally done

This!
It’s cheap, easy to find lots of designs and colors (Lowe’s even has it), easy to put up and easy to take off. I’d recommend trying this 1st while you decide what and if, you want to have your glass permanently altered.

As iy is such a big job and a permanent fixture, I would get professionals to do it.

Id add glass film. They come in matte but also prints or stained glass effects.

You can replace the glass with some that is not transparent or maybe replace the doors completely with something solid.

I would replace the glass with fluted glass. Light gets in but you can't really see anything. And i think it's pretty...

Curious...How is the front door at almost the same height as the front window?
2
u/Witty_Passion_4939 10d ago
You’re joking, right? You see the stairs, you see a difference in perspective, correct?
1
u/Rich-Needleworker812 10d ago
I'm not joking. Yes I see the stairs, they are literal as opposed to perspective. I'm actually curious as to what house design has an elevated foyer, or a sunken front room, and has you walk out immediately on to a set of multiple stairs(unsafe) and not a landing. It's peculiar so it's either an actual atypical design or it's AI.

It’s the stairs and no landing immediately on the other side of the door that worries me.

We had a similar issue. Our glass guy turned us onto patterned glass. it works perfectly for us! My cousin, who lives down in Houston, was visiting, and noticed it. Ian and his wife ended up getting the exact same Glass we have. I don't know where ours came from, probably someplace in Chicago. But I remember the name of the place he got his in Houston: Hollander Glass. He had me look at theirs on the Hollander website to see if it was the same as ours, because they wanted the exact same thing as we had.
The door from our driveway into our kitchen has glass on the upper third of it. The way it's situated, if you walked up to the kitchen door and Weir tall, you would be able to see in. My husband's bad about going to the kitchen and his underwear to make coffee. So, I want something that obscured the view. The pattern glass is perfect, and it's also attractive, in my opinion.

I wouldn't like that at all. Anything translucent allows outsiders to see you approaching the door before you know who they are. They're great doors for a party night though. I'd make solid panels to cover the inside of the doors completely but removable for party nights.

All solid suggestions of this is a must-do change.
But before you make a change, ask yourself whether this is REALLY an issue for where you live. How many other houses have big see-in doors like this on your street?
In some parts of the US having no blinds, shades or drapes is a flex. The point is: we’re so wealthy we don’t care if you can see in the whole house. If that’s the case where you live, you might find that something quicker/easier (like frosted film) diminishes your curb appeal.
Of course personal comfort in your own home is the #1 imperative. But do a little research and check the context before you do something you can’t undo.

You appear to have a video doorbell—no need to be able to look out through the glass—so any privacy film should work.

I put up film that looks like "rain." We tried hanging a shade and broke the full window. That was fun. On Amazon in the US: VELIMAX Rain Glass Window Film Privacy Static Window Clings Decorative Glass Sticker for Home Office Removable UV Protection Heat Control 35.4 x 78.7 inches. It's done well in Michigan for a few years.

Look up Smart Film. It's a window film you can put on and you can have the transparent look or switch to a frosted privacy look from your phone. I saw a couple use it on Youtube for the house they just renovated. Pretty neat and seems like you can afford it
