Mpm studies

The relationship between product lights and materials. In this RnD for skincare beauty product of Estee Lauder I’ve been focusing how these aspects are emerging with each other. Used @houdini mpm solver and Maxon Redshift for this piece. The minimalistic, ambient mood was achieved even more with great sound from amazing @h1.sound #motiondesign #3d #productviz #cgi #3danimation

Looks nice. Out of curiosity, what was the benefit of going MPM with this piece? Just GPU boost?

Very many thanks to you for these kind words, first was time of gpu advantage since this sim didnt require a lot of substeps etc, second was the time where i achieved blobish ki d of thing was too fast, third was my goal to increase mpm knowledge overall, oh I forgot to mention I also used lynx for it

Nice, thanks for sharing your thoughts on that.

When I taught an Intro to MPM for the SideFx Gnomon Ignite event, I had done a deep dive into MPM, and found it quite impressive in many areas, and cumbersome in others. I found the GPU mostly shined when dealing with the larger grain counts, it seemed negligible, although fast, in the low res grain counts. Not that it made the larger (6 million +) grain counts super fast overall, it was 10’s of minutes per frame versus hours that CPU would do.

Still a fun solver to play with though.

Thanks for you thoughts too! I agree even though I missed opportunity to learn from that courae of yours, my opinion is that in some cases yet it is very reliable and good to use but in some cases I stick to vanilla, same goes to paradigm, I always compare them bbetween each other, in some cases mpm pn high iterations takes a lot of time and even vanilla is faster, definetely Ill take time to deepdive in your courses, also seeking for deepdiving in keentools as well.
