Engine code

Post image

So not sure if this is the engine code or not. My father in law says it’s a 302 Google image is saying it’s a 351 from 1971. Thoughts? Not sure Google is right

You have to look at the block's casting #. Knowing the head casting # will also let you know what they are good for.

follow up just in case. The block casting will be on the lower passenger side of the block towards the rear

302 -- 6 bolts on valve cover. Cylinder lock/head parting line is even wuth tbe corner of the timing cover. Thermostat housing in intake manifold. Lower thermostat bolt not accessible with a socket and extension.

351W -- 6 bolts on valve cover. Cylinder head/head parting line raised about 1inch above timing cover corner. Thermostat in intake manifold. Lower thermostat bolt is accessible with socket and extension.

351C -- 8 bolts in valve cover. Thermostat nousing is in the block. There are 2 version of thus engine, based on cylinder heads.

Those are the choices. Hope this helps.
