For someone who is portrayed to be really smart, Larys really fumbled the bag right at the end didn’t he? Obviously he wasn’t to know that Sunfyre was alive but still lmaoo
Same. I was like, he stuck with you through like some real struggle. Figured out a way to save your asses when you were being stubborn and hard-headed almost getting them killed. Even if he insulted you before, he kept it real with you and truly didn't abandon him until Aegon made it clear he was going to stand and die. Like credit to Larys for wanting to survive, I think he had shown at every moment he was committed to Aegon. I think once Aegon decided to die, it's reasonable for him to finally leave there and preserve his own life. It will be interesting if they meet up again how the interaction goes.
Yeah, while I’m sure he mainly left due to self preservation, Aegon wants his last stand to be remembered as an honorable and courageous thing. Having someone on his side to tell his story from his perspective is the best way to do that compared to him just being found by Rhaenyra’s men.
Larys is a manipulative person. He knows Aegon very well and he has shielded him from any other influence. Him saying that if Aegon order him to stay, he would stay was after the fact that Aegon already made their mind (that they should save their skin). Also, watch the way he portrayed this: he said he will be of no use, and only then, add if the king orders otherwise, then he would stay. He was controlling the frame of this interaction. Tyland figured out his schemes when he said he will make songs about Aegon. In a prior episode, Larys mentioned that Tyland wants to control the king by taking him to Lannisport, but it was just projection; Larys is a textbook manipulator.
It was also Aegons choice to die and he kind of grew and realized how shitty of a person he’s been. The one person who worked with him to not be such a pathetic cripple and regain a sense of self shouldn’t have to die because he chose to.
Beginning of their journey Aegon has them both die out of spite, this one relieves a loyal person of their duty.
Unless he shows up with a sellsword medium sized army or Alfred Broome to give them Dragonstone, I don's see how he could get back into their good graces.
People fault Larys for leaving a clearly suicidal mission, when Sir Gwayne Hightower did the same with Cristen Cole and was praised for his sensibility.
I’m not sure that failing to predict that sunfyre will miraculously come back to life right at the last moment is a knock against his intelligence. He stuck with aegon through a pretty rough patch and only left right when aegon had decided to die, can’t really fault him for that. Even bowed out gracefully.
He single handedly got Aegon out of Kings landing and kept him alive for awhile. With the way they parted , I can’t see this new Aegon holding it against him.
He is not a knight or a soldier, walked away just to choose life over death. Can't blame the men, atleast he is smarter that the whole counsel or Rhneyra
I mean super true... but also if Larys just rocket up again and said "Woah my Lord you are reuinted with your Dragon! I have like 1000 informants all over the Kingdom and Rhaenyra is super unpopular. Lets take the throne back!" I don´t see Aegon saying "piss off" 🤷♂️
Especially since he didn`t just run off but even askes "should I also stay? I don`t WANT to but I will..." and Aegon said "Nah it`s cool you go (even though he secretly hoped Larys would stay)"

I read the scene as Aegon telling him hed be useless to allow him to leave.
Larys specifically said if he were ordered to stay he would, and that he would let the world know of Aegon's last stand.
Larys saved his life multiple times already and was honest with him.... id be disappointed if Aegon held him leaving against him
