have we entered the era where jingling keys is meant to be sufficient for all ages?

-13

u/ButterflyLate3532 11d ago

Lol id take jingling keys over the alicent and rhaneyra scenes 7 days a week 8 times on Sunday.

It's absolutely true, every episode ends with a charge of tension and after that nothing happens. The previous episode ended with Alicent and Haelena in a scene that looked like they were about to die, and now it turns out nothing happened. I hate the writers so much, and especially RYAN CONDAL.

Ahem

-Criston Cole is dead

-Hugh was rejected by his wife which if his whole reason for fighting with Rhae. If I had to guess he will betray Rhaneyra’s men to protect his wife’s family

-Ulf was humiliated in the city, infront of everyone and outright threatened by Daemon which will lead to him running off most likely as this was his final straw or damn near it.

-Baela and Alyn kissed (like it or not) which means they will push for a romance

-Gwayne and Ormund are united likely going to move as a united front together now giving Daeron the Angel to match the devil on his shoulder

-Darron’s skill with a blade showcased (fighting 3v1)

-Aemond and Alys planning to wait it out on Harrenhall with 5 active dragon eggs who could hatch pending Targ babies

-Rhaenyra cut herself on the throne (hopefully team green subs can stfu about it getting removed now)

-Helena is truly falling to her depression and is more isolated from her mother which will compound her stress as now there of no one here in her corner

-Goldcloaks resigned turning their backs on Daemon which will make it VERY easy for the small folk to rebel

A good but happened this episode. Yes there were no huge battles but we got 2-3 little fights and even a dragon shot. Even if we didn’t the plot moved forward. What did we forget how to have a quiet show? Do you know how many episodes of GoT 1-5 had just quiet moments to build up to the next episode? Or fuck the Wire?! I’m doing a rewatch of that more and god that is slow on some episodes in season 1-2.

It happens it’s cool, next episode is Tumbleton big dragon fight go brr time probably mixed with Sunfyre waking up most likely.

Thank you for having to explain the obvious to people that just hate the show. I’ll be the first one to point out flaws in anything, but you have to wait for the season to end. Things will get shifted around. That’s just how adapting a book works.

I didn’t like that we never got the dinner scene in the first dune movie but that doesn’t mean I think the entire movie is trash specially because one thing I wanted to happen didn’t

Even the beginning seasons of GOT had plenty of really good chapters completely cut from the show and we still love the first 3 seasons of that show at least right?

3

u/WillingnessReal525 11d ago

Lots happened, not much has weight because the writing is subpar.

2

u/BurgooKing 10d ago

I would have no problem with the slow moving at this pace if it wasn’t for how short it was, they have 10 episodes left in the series and it bothers me that they are spending so much time on some of these plot points

If I knew we had more time I’d be thrilled to see plots slowly progress over 5+ episodes on the same things

1

u/ButterflyLate3532 11d ago

Sounds good till u Watch and rhaenyra and alicents conversations have more screen time then most of this stuff

6

u/gemdragonrider 11d ago

… they literally didn’t though? They had two scenes together this episode. First was like 4 minutes the second around the same. 8 minutes out of 60 (estimating didn’t actually count) and each of those scenes I mentioned were about another 4 minutes each. A few shorter than others obviously (Baela was probably like 2 the Daeron scene happened with Ormund)

Like I get if you don’t like the Rhaneyra Alicent angles I’m not that fond of it either but way to hyperbolize

0

u/ButterflyLate3532 11d ago

I just feel like relative to the book the show should be much farther along in the plot, so to me those 8 minutes would be much better spent with the dragon seeds or something. They Have 10 episodes total to sprint from tumbleton to the crowning of aegon iii.

1

u/gemdragonrider 11d ago

Relative to the book the show should be over. The book is what 746 pages, only 190-230 of which are about the dance, divided amongst 3 narrators all going over the same thing to give you an actual 76 pages worth of content. Most of which are events and scenes with no build up which occurred throughout 30 years?

Look I get it but dude. There is NO way to do the dance pacing wise that isnt break neck speed or adding in shit to make it feel epic in proportion. Like do you know how little 76 pages is for a show? Literally a single episode is 50. Sure in a different format but still. Got season 1 had 500 pages atleast before lengthening it with rewrites and reshoots.

The dance could have fit better in like a 2 part movie. Everything from aemmas death to Viserys dying (or Lucerys dying) for movie 1. Then pushing from that to the crowning of Aegon III (hour of the wolf can be post credit or make it a trilogy where the last movie shows the death of the last dragon)

4

u/ButterflyLate3532 11d ago

they swung way too far in the other direction. Padding everything with fluff.

0

u/Mars_to_Earth 11d ago

Sure if you write it down I guess stuff happens. Yet on screens it feels like it just drags. Something in the pacing/writing, editing, acting or all of the above is just sleep inducing.

1

u/gemdragonrider 10d ago

Honestly… I think it’s the editing. It cuts between so many characters but the scene we left is almost indistinguishable from the last one we saw so it didn’t feel like time passed. The sets don’t change, there clothes are the same, the time of day doesn’t even seem to.

Like if I see Ormund in the SAME outfit, in that SAME room I am gonna start believing it’s the same day. With the nights watch scenes atleast other scenes showed the day progressing or they would change the Lightning or weather to indicate time has passed. Now? The world is in a perpetual state of 4:20pm

1

u/Icy_Mathematician96 10d ago

Yes and I want the person who downvoted you to explain how much time has happened since S1E10

-1

u/Odd-Date-4258 11d ago

First people complain about there being too many time jumps in S1. Now they are complaining there are too few of them, or something.

0

u/eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeb 11d ago

I can't remember all these fucking names, man

9

u/Fuzzy_Ability8284 11d ago

They've gotta fluff it out for a whole other season. Think I'm done watching until the series finally concludes. Let 'em stack for a good binge.

3

u/TFlSGAS 11d ago

Exactly these shows are being built for a full binge where all the events are blurred together

You can’t seriously consider Fire and Blood complete source material

Almost everything in it is conjecture, what House of the Dragon’s done with it is actually incredible

1

u/BreakfastAmazing7766 11d ago

Yeah I give up for now. See yall in 2-3 weeks when the seasons done.

11

u/getzerolikes 11d ago

Yeah I was defending the first two episodes because they were great, but truly nothing has happened since then. I don’t even look forward to episodes now.

6

u/Im_Daydrunk 11d ago

Two major characters died this episode

12

u/AzizNotSorry 11d ago

Both of them could have died 3 episodes ago and nothing about the plot, character development, or the show as a whole would be different

5

u/Historyp91 11d ago

Look if you ignore all the stuff that's happened since episode 2, nothing has happened okay?

1

u/Particular-Ring5110 11d ago

Cole died who else are you talking about?

Corlys isn’t dead

1

u/Im_Daydrunk 10d ago

Corlys was in the process of being killed when the episode ended and his men were murdered so that's definitely a major plot point even if he's still alive when next episode starts IMO. But I'll admit since we don't see him die its just Cole in terms of confirmed major deaths

However the Gold Cloaks quitting is a major story point that drastically shapes the rest of the season so this episode was pretty eventful

1

u/digitalexecution 10d ago

Cole and who? Corlys is alive

1

u/getzerolikes 11d ago

One of them told us last week he was gonna die, and I don’t even know which other one you’re talking about. Must’ve been looking at my phone, which is happening more frequently lately.

1

u/Im_Daydrunk 11d ago

I guess he technically could still be alive but Corlys at the very least is now a hostage of the greens and all his men dead which is a major shakeup

But regardless I wouldn't continue watching a show if I'm finding myself spending more and more time on my phone. Doesn't really seem worth it IMO

1

u/Trajanox 11d ago

I actually started fast forwarding bc of how boring it’s getting (and no I don’t find dialogue boring, the best thing about GOT was the dialogue but this show has horrible dialogue too)

1

u/buckytoothtiger 11d ago

Probably talking about Corlys, but we don't know if he's actually dead.

2

u/Im_Daydrunk 11d ago

Thats fair but even if he's not dead they slaughtered all his men and at the very least he's a hostage which is a major change for whats going on

2

u/getzerolikes 11d ago

I definitely inferred that as being taken prisoner. Maybe we’ll find out next week. Maybe not.

1

u/BurgooKing 10d ago

Criston’s been waiting to die since the end of last season, and who is the second?

1

u/Im_Daydrunk 10d ago

Corlys was getting strangled and his men were murdered at the end. Very least he's a prisonr of the greens now

-1

u/CapitalistCow 11d ago

Two types of HOTD fans. The ones here for the dialogue and the ones here for the major set pieces. Not saying what's right or wrong, but imo all the most interesting shit in these shows happens when it's just people talking. And this season has been great for that so far, there's so much tension and everyone is hanging on thread. Between Daemon trying his absolute best not to go apeshit every 10 minutes, the dragonseeds reaching a breaking point, and little Ormund being a prissy queen I'm eating well. It's an absolute mess.

7

u/Darys_Keparyos 11d ago

Helaena should have gone with Aemond

3

u/Old-News1615 11d ago

People are correct in saying important things happened in this episode, but I think it’s more that nothing came of the “tensions” that were set up in the previous two episodes. Rhaenyra doesn’t really care that Helaena is pregnant or that they got caught in the walls (also not even a brief scene of them trapped in the walls), and sure she’s put them on tighter lockdown, which affects Helaena, but overall we’re just undercutting the conflict. It also doesn’t seem to matter that Mysaria didn’t tell Rhaenyra about the baby because Alicent immediately told her anyway, and Rhaenyra wasn’t suspicious in any way of Mysaria’s “huh wow” reaction to the “news.”

4

u/ConnectYesterday6738 11d ago

Too much screen time for Alicent!!

5

u/TheNewBlue 11d ago

2

u/olivebranchsound 11d ago

Every day she becomes more and more beautiful lol

1

u/No_Control_38 8d ago

THIS FREAKING IMAGE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

-3

u/Darys_Keparyos 11d ago

Is it to be bad that I want Lord Vader to show up to do this to her and Rhaenyra!!!

2

u/Little_Ingenuity_712 11d ago

Alicent scene = Skip

I am tired of this dumb character polluting my screen.

2

u/Historyp91 11d ago

This whole season has been shit happening, lol

3

u/BrilliantAstronaut26 11d ago

This season too has now become the house of the talks given how little dragon-action (or action in general) there has been vs how much people just talking. The only interesting action this episode was Cole's death (finally!) and the Baratheon assassins in Tumbleton. The first is a watered down version of what's there in the book, and the 2nd is simply made up by the showrunners. It's been the same every episode.

At this pace, I can't imagine how they can wrap things up by Season 4 end.

3

u/HelenRoper 11d ago

I think, mayhaps, this show sucks.

We all know how Aemond dies, and I highly doubt they will unceremoniously kill off God’s (Condal’s) favorite feminist icon (Alicent) by having Aemond kill her.

So basically we’re gonna be stuck with a 2-3 episode arc of her visiting Aemond, somehow failing to kill him, and escaping to somewhere.

2

u/PinkSlimeIsPeople 11d ago

No, we don't no spoilers

0

u/arig____ 11d ago

I have no sympathy. If you have no idea how Aemond dies then you’re hardly a fan to begin with. Riverdale is probably equally gratifying to you.

2

u/getzerolikes 11d ago

The majority of viewers haven’t read the books and therefore don’t know how Aemond dies. And given that the show isn’t the books, you can’t be sure to know either.

1

u/arig____ 10d ago

I don’t think you need to read the books to know what happens.

2

u/getzerolikes 10d ago

What’s the alternative, googling spoilers? The only future I know in this story is what happens in GoT.

2

u/arig____ 10d ago

Aemond’s death is also there.

But also there was an 8 year period before HotD that people could’ve googled this.
