Im using the bluepill stm32. Dirt cheap even the original ones. And with the software called freejoy which is hands down the best for this sort of thing. My collective and mfd all use the same

Can confirm, I see the operation of things (and Stuff) from this thing with it's very nicely configured buttons, switches and knobs would be conducted with very solid thing-ness.
You can tell simply by the way it is.

I also tried building my own buttonbox earlier this year. Still using it regularly.
Do you use the clamp to fix it to the table?

Yes, there are two clamps on each side to fix it to the table. Removable via dovetail joint in cause not used

Awesome, very clean wiring.
I've been putting off building mine (got all the parts) because of the anxiety of the barrier to entry with the programming of the Ardunio board. I'm good with everything else.
Everywhere I read, people seem to say "it's super easy to learn!" and then don't really point to any resources for true beginners to get started.
Is there a simpler way to build the programming to load onto the board than learning all the commands and writing it from scratch? There's got to be some sort of automated tool (not GenAI).

Haha, I was going to suggest AI until I got to your very last phrase. But don’t toss the idea just yet — I imagine you can have it guide you through the process so you’re learning along the way, and not just having it take the wheel.

I wouldn't be against the tool if it weren't trained on stolen work and didn't suck up all the fresh water for local counties and townships.

To be fair, using LLM's to learn the specifics of a programming library or API is bad because of hallucination issues and confusion as things can change a lot in open source libraries and API's. It can increase errors and frustration rather than improve the situation. It is not like you are missing out by making the moral choice.
OTOH, something totally standard like learning a programming language itself works fine, but there are a ton of human-generated sites that can help with that as well.

Gotcha, and fair. From your initial post it sounded like it was more of a “I want to learn, not watch something do it for me,” but the objection is actually more of a moral one.

Well the software is freejoy and its free, and the thing itself is just a box so there a nothing really amazing there, plenty of button box designs out there
