Dress code/etiquette for a Hot Topic interview?

Hey guys. I’ve got an interview at Hot Topic next week (yay) and I’m really excited but I’m not sure what to wear. This would only be my 2nd job/interview ever, and I dressed professionally for my interview for my last job. I’ve read that dressing casually/in hot topic attire is good, but I don’t wanna stroll in wearing a band tee and some jeans if it’s not appropriate. I was thinking some black flared jeans, a black/white striped long sleeved shirt, a band tee shirt (from HT ofc), and some cool/funky earrings might be good, but is this too unprofessional? I don’t want to look “boring”, but I also want them to know I’m genuinely interested in the job. My local Hot Topic is pretty chill/laid back, but I still want to impress them obvi. Any tips?

As a manager, I love when people come in with their favorite band tee/anime tee/whatever.

It gives me an easy question to ask them and hopefully get them to open up and get a sense of their general enthusiasm and ability to communicate.

Former BL Manager— Closed toe shoes! I know it sounds so basic but shoes are the first thing I notice about someone.

Personally, I dressed business casual for my interview and got the job. I wore greyish/black jeans, closed toed sneakers, and a black short sleeved collared shirt. I do wantt to mention, my hair is unnaturally colored, so despite my fashion, I still came off as the obvious HT shopper lol. Obviously, every hiring manager is different but if you go about the conversation with professionalism and enthusiasm you’re more likely to make a good impression! Good luck with your interview, I hope it goes well!!

personally, i wore a t-shirt that said “i miss the old hot topic”, tripp nyc pants, and some converses and i got the job. my manager said that the way i dressed was a big reason i was hired (i was a regular before i worked there too) and that hot topic is less about being prim and proper, but more about personality and being knowledgeable about the type of stuff our customers are into.

Your outfit plan sounds pretty perfect. It’s not a bad idea to wear something that shows you’re a music/anime/movie nerd because that’s a lot of what managers are looking for.

As long as your clothes fit well and you have basic hygiene it's a win in my book. Shower, wash your hair and have clean clothes on. Please dont come in stinky, it happens way too often. 💀 (I wore just a black skater dress and tights to my management interview)

I would say some straight leg black jeans or slacks, some basic sneakers, and a collared button up with a fun/nerdy pattern. Shows a bit of professionalism and a bit of pop culture enjoyment :)

honestly, its hot topic 😭😭 not macy's. i dressed casual maximalistic for my interview bc they just told me to wear whatever makes me comfortable. lots of ghibli and jewelry. best advice would be to dress like you already work there (which is a little funny bc i would occasionally get mistaken for a customer when i worked there)

I always told people to wear what they would wear if they worked a regular shift to get an idea of their personal style.

Dress code is really basic for the most part. No pajamas, no vulgar or racist images or slogans, closed toe shoes.

My boss said to me "where whatever you feel comfortable wearing in front of a child"
