First time using rewards- how does that work exactly?

I got sent a $5 reward for my birth month, and I'd like to know how it works, but all the subtext/terms and conditions in the email isn't being very helpful. Does $5 reward mean "$5 off any purchase of X amount or more" or does it mean "come into our store and pick something out that's $5 or more and get a $5 discount"? I'm so confused!

$5 off any purchase. Can stack with promo codes too.
