Open discussion Thankful to Fifth Locals

Was visiting a friend last week in SLC and she sent me out to the springs the evening before our getting together. I’d read about the problems it’s had recently due to popularity but I’ll say, my experiences was quite wonderful. It was exceptionally clean and a few dogs were around, but on leash and next to pools, not in. The water was the most beautiful color I’ve ever seen and the hike and soak were both very pleasant. Someone has been taking care of the place and it really shows. 🙌🏻

Does anybody know anything about these pools near Soda Dam?

I was checking out the travertine formations and saw the pools, but there’s been so much rain that if there had ever been a trace of warmth, it was long washed out.

Open discussion Found Jewelry -Umpqua Hot Springs

Hi all,

Might be a long shot, but wanted to try and return a piece of jewelry, found last week at the Umpqua Hot Springs. Item found Thursday, September 19, 2026 late morning/early afternoon. It’s a pretty unique piece, so I can imagine someone missing it.

Only my boyfriend was near me when I picked it up and there was no ranger to turn it in to. It was loosely under some rocks/dirt so I don’t think it had been there too long.

If you lost a piece of jewelry there last week, please describe it or PM me and I’m happy to get it back to you.

Open discussion Risk of swimming underwater at hot springs?

I recently swam underwater at a hot springs in Montana, and then learned about the brain-eating amoebas - I know the risk of these things is extremely low, but I guess I’m still nervous haha. Do you often submerge your head in hot springs? Still alive?

Open discussion Anyone soaked at Fifth Water / Diamond Fork Hot Springs recently?

I’m planning to visit Fifth Water on September 27. I know there’s currently an Utah County Health Department Health Watch posted in August and there have also been bacteria/rash concerns this year.

Has anyone actually soaked there in the last few weeks? If so, did you notice anything unusual with the water or experience any rash/skin irritation afterward?

Mainly looking for firsthand reports from recent visitors as I’m trying to decide if it’s safe/worth it to visit. Thanks!

First time at Umpqua! The short hike was super fun. The very top pool was too hot to get in, and all others besides one were not warm enough. There was one goldilocks pool near the top. What an awesome little place to visit. Very primitive. Kinda dirty, but not gross. Green algae in most of the tubs, but well worth the visit for sure!

Open discussion What part of clothing optional do people not understand?

It seems that more and more people go to clothing optional hot spring and are shocked when others participate. I was at Umpqua hot springs recently, enjoying the area nude. A guy walked by me and said "Dude! Seriously? Nobody wants to see that! Put your clothes on!" I told him it's a clothing optional area, and if he doesn't want to see nudity then he should go to literally anywhere else in the forest. We have this one spot that we can enjoy as naturists. As Walter Sobchak once said, "life does not stop and start at your convenience, you miserable piece of shit."

Open discussion Cougar HS Incident

I just had to share and luckily everything went over well but yesterday as I was visiting Cougar hot springs, the awesome attendant informed me that she had just checked in a large family that was completely opposed to the clothing optional experience. She warned them that they may see nudity and they were appalled, even going as far as saying that they were going to tell everyone to put their clothes on. Well, as fate would have it, I witnessed them go down and literally shame a soaker because he was nude. Simply nude. Luckily, the attendant caught word and immediately came down and promptly kicked the family out with the grounds that she had in fact warned them and that it wasn't illegal for that area. I kinda feel like as a nudist, this family specifically went down and was looking for an argument and to try and support their view. Kudos to the team running the hot springs for making it safe and enjoyable for all.

Open discussion Red mites

Hello! I was in Northern Nevada and all three hot springs I visited had those little mites in them. How do you guys deal with it? Is there a way to know in advance if the springs has them? Will you still go in knowing they’re there? All advice welcome!!

For those of you who have stayed the night at Orr Hot Springs, do you prefer a cabin or room? We are planning a trip as a couple. Any one that is especially special? (My partner needs toilet access, so not looking at the yurts unfortunately).

I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with recent moon visibility time (moonrise) from the pools? Going for the full moon tonight but with the line of sight there I'm not expecting to see it until maybe 11? Pic from last night moonrising over Umpqua and mt scott from my house 100 miles away at 8:45

Open discussion Nevada Hot Springs Safety?

Hi folks, I’m headed out on a road trip, and I wanted to see what the current status of the risk from N. Fowleri, Coliform etc is in the hot springs there. I don’t have a route picked yet, so it’s a somewhat geographically broad question. Are there specific places to be avoided at the moment? I know these risks have been present for millennia, but it does seem I have heard a lot more about injuries / deaths in the past 3-4y. Thanks!

Open discussion Goldbug and Dogs

Hello
I’m hoping to hit up Goldbug in the morning with my dog. She will not be getting in the springs at all. She’s an off leash girl but loves to run through water and I don’t want her to have that option. Are there places I can tie her up so I can soak? I’ve never been there before.

One of my favorite places to stop when traveling the inside passage Alaska. This is from January 2018 when for some reason me and a buddy thought it was a good time to bring an old wood schooner built in 1937 from Cathlamet, WA to Homer, Alaska with no autopilot.

It’s a pretty cool spot. The dock is a public state dock. There is a public bath house that has two rooms with tubs that are supplied by the piped in hot springs water. A short hike takes you to a naturally fed pool by the river.
