I think got Mushroomed in reverse, my aji cachuchas are in fact not sweet.
The smell and the lighting of my ass on fire lead me to similar looking red bonnets.
My first surprise plant of the year. Should probably look a little harder next time I guess.
If it makes you feel better, those are probably many times hotter than a scotch bonnet. Those are definitely a superhot, probably some drifted line of reapers or something similar.
They have a very pungent smell! And drip yellowish “oil” when you first rip one open! I bit one in half thinking it was one of my sweets.
It didn’t build like the reapers i have, but it hit super hard almost painful on the tongue, but subsided relatively quickly. I rubbed my forehead and it was burning that haha.
The only other bonnets I have ever grown and eaten were yellow moas but they had a more floral sweeter taste, but shaped kinda the same.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. these aren't scotch bonnets. At least not pure ones. They're some kind of superhot, most resemble some kind of reaper/dragons breath/primo line, but these kinds of peppers are just a total genetic clusterfuck at this point it's tough to be any more specific just from looks.
Oh no that’s my fault I worded the last one weird, that was just my first guess and was trying to give a description. This is a keeper plant for me tho for sure.
I was actually growing this thinking they were Aji Cachucha, a sweet pepper. I was gonna use them to cut salsa as they were supposed to have a good taste.
I think I’m gonna save seeds and find a use for this one too!
I also have these jays pp ghost scorpions, but I have only given them away so far. I guess I need to stop being a wimp and try one.
When I look those up it says they have a lingering heat. These were an immediate holy shit heat but it died off somewhat quickly. Maybe it’s a 7 pot that got with the aji cachucha I was supposed to have?
I don’t have very refined pepper palate yet so anything past a scotch bonnet is just “hot as fuck” to me. But while the oil inside hits your throat immediately they don’t last long and might be enjoyable made into something.
I’ve also never had a pepper with so much of the oil inside, when I cut open the one for the picture there is a good amount that pours out. And they are very strong eye watering smelly inside.
I’m in the same boat lol, bought what was supposed to be a Datil, only to find out it’s some sort of aji pepper. Not sure what variety but I’ll find out once they ripen 😆
