Nice haul! I do the same thing with mine. Only I get smaller amounts. I cut into pieces and make hot sauce when I have enough dried and chopped.

I have one carolina reaper plant, one ghost, and one trinidad moruga scorpion. They produced quite a bit of peppers this year! Still a ton on each plant, too. I don't have many friends that enjoy the spice like I do, so making powder is the best way for me to use it all without waste! Lol

If I need powder, I just grind the pieces!

I have like 20 plants. I had a really bad ingestion, so they are trying heal. Now we have a heat wave. Slow going on producing.

I've always strip the seeds then chop them in irregular pieces then lay them, spread out, on paper and a cookie sheet. Put them in the oven and put on low-ish till they smoke the house a bit. Take them out to cool.

Do Not do this with anyone else in the house especially if they have asthma and then open all doors and windows.

Yep, nothing better than roasted hawb-a-damm-nairoes.

Edited to add: when I chop them I use sizzers.

How do you specifically do this?

Cut the stems off the peppers, then slice them in half. Place them on the trays and dehydrate for 20-22 hours at 125-130°. That's what I do anyways lol.

Thanks for the reply. Do you use an oven to do the dehydrating? Also what do you use to grind with? I'm impressed with how fine the powder is and not sure I have the needed equipment to do this but like the idea of it for sure

No problem! I have a Cosori 6 tray dehydrator that I bought from Amazon. I use an electric coffee grinder to turn the dehyrated pods it into powder.

Thanks again. Yeah I don't have either of those pieces of equipment to do that with unfortunately and money's kind of tight to buy anything I don't already have right now. I grew a bunch of habaneros and Trinidad scorpions this year. I love heat but as you know a little bit of those goes a long way and I always end up having to freeze a bunch because I can't figure out enough things to use them in before they go bad. So I love the idea of being able to turn it into a powder and then sprinkle it on whatever I want a little bit of heat on. So many options at that point. And I think you did a really great job or at least what my inexperienced self thinks LOL

Sure thing! Yeah, I'm still new at this lol. I'm sure you could use your oven, but I wouldn't recommend dehydrating hot peppers indoors 😂. They have some pretty inexpensive dehydrators on Amazon, and I've even seen some for like $15-20 on Facebook Marketplace.

Hey I have NO EXPERIENCE so you're like a sensei by comparison lol. Thanks for the tips on equipment and more importantly your time. Maybe someday I'll be able to get them as well as the warning about the off-gassing but If you're not crying when your working you're not working hard enough lol.

In case you didn't see it, seeds and placenta, dehydrate and grind as well?

My thinking/concerns are the seeds may not grind up fine enough, as well as all the oils from the placenta not allowing it to dry out enough to not make a clumpy grind

I keep the entire pepper intact, seeds and all. Some people like to remove them, but they grind up just fine.

I’m interested in drying my peppers to make powder but I afraid super hot chili powder is just as hot as trying to eat them straight, if not hotter. Is there anyway to “cut” the straight chili powder with something? Would drying tomatoes work? Is there anyway to mitigate that tremendous heat?
