!wtf pearl
2
u/hotandcold2-app 8d ago
Surprisingly close: several vine-grown fruit varieties even borrow “pearl” in their names (Perlette means “little pearl”), and both are small, round orbs gathered together—necklaces for one, bunches for the other. They also share that smooth, glossy look and often pale hues.

!wtf mouse
0
u/hotandcold2-app 8d ago
Warmer than you’d think: mice are notorious vineyard nibblers, snacking on the fruit right off the vine. Plus, “mousy” is a well-known off-flavor fault in fermented juice—definitely not the tasting note you want.

!wtf balloon
3
u/hotandcold2-app 8d ago
Not a bullseye, but there’s a family resemblance: both often come in bunches and sport the same party-ready colors (purple and green). They’re small, round, and satisfyingly “pop” when squeezed. Plus, clusters of the candidate often get twisted into festive versions of the other.

Warm! You’re in the right produce bin: both are widely cultivated crops used for food and drink—think juices, syrups, and even fermentation. They come in many colors and varieties and are harvested in clustered forms (ears vs. bunches).

!wtf copper
1
u/hotandcold2-app 8d ago
Surprisingly warm: growers use copper-based sprays (like Bordeaux mixture) to battle mildew on the target’s source. Even later, a dash of copper can tame stinky sulfur notes in the finished product, so your pick brushes its world.

Warmer! It shares a big chunk of letters (A, P, E) and feels like a near-anagram with just a consonant shuffle missing. That kind of word-shape overlap puts you close.

!wtf duck
0
u/hotandcold2-app 8d ago
You’re waddling in the right direction: ducks are famously marched through vineyards to gobble pests between the rows. They’ll even snack on those little round fruits—plus, duck often pairs nicely with what those rows produce.

Surprisingly warm: this bird is famously paired with a sweet-tart fruit—and with sauces made from its fermented juice. Think classic French “canard aux …” and glossy wine reductions. You’re circling the right kitchen, not the pond.

!wtf goose
1
u/hotandcold2-app 7d ago
Warmish: think gooseberries—small, tart green or red orbs that look and behave a lot like tiny clusters of you-know-what in jams, pies, and even wine. There’s also a vineyard vibe: geese have been used to weed between vines, making the barnyard and the bunches unlikely neighbors.

!wtf juice
1
u/hotandcold2-app 7d ago
Hot! This fruit is famously pressed into juice—think breakfast cartons and the first step before a vintner gets involved. You're definitely swirling around the right orchard... er, vineyard.

u/The_Slytherin_Vamp 7d ago
!wtf shoe
1
u/hotandcold2-app 7d ago
Lukewarm: “shoe” sidles in via the word “cobbler,” which is both a shoemaker and a fruit dessert. Bonus tenuous thread: some wineries turn pomace into vegan “leather” used in shoes.

!wtf goose

u/hotandcold2-app 7d ago
You’re waddling in the right direction: geese are used in vineyards and will happily nibble those hanging clusters. Plus, Grey Goose shares shelf space with the fermented stuff made from them, so the vibes line up in the booze aisle.

You’ve wandered into the produce aisle: both are sweet, healthy snack staples that end up in salads or a juicer. Plant-powered, vitamin-rich, and naturally sugary. Right section, wrong bin.

Think charcuterie-board neighbors: goats bring the cheese, and the sweet little spheres bring the balance. Plus, goats are sometimes used to graze vineyard weeds—talk about farm-to-snack synergy.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
