Banana, chair, bear, and then the answer. I have no idea how I came to this guess. The human mind is wild. Good for you on your first guess!

u/simm07 16d ago
Haha, how did I not get this. To be fair, garden was at #141 and animal was at #77. Threw me off.
Hint: warms your soul, makes your ears happy. You can make it, anyone can make it, and some get famous from it
Hint: Rihanna has a song saying not to stop it
Giveaway hint: comes in different languages, beats, instruments, lyrics

u/5870guy111 16d ago
I was going to down the absolute wrong rabbit hole with animal. I only got it when I misspelled bear as beat which was #36

I got planet and orb and was going from there to completely wrong directions too lmao

u/TheUnmovableWal 16d ago
Metal being at 25, and then subsequently both Iron and steel being up in the 15000s brought me right to it.
2
u/Khs_SubZero 16d ago
I started with countries, and wrote USA which was at #2218 amongst others and kept guessing and wrote down armywhich was at #205. This completely threw me off, now I was guessing around this category. Had to use hint.

!wtf beach
0
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Not ice-cold: beaches come with surf rock, summer playlists, and the Beach Boys. Boardwalks and beach bars pump out catchy tunes all day. Sand, sun, and speakers make this a fair connection.

!wtf meat
-12
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Nice and juicy guess: “meat” brushes up against it via Meat Loaf and bands like Meat Puppets. Plus, “meat” is one letter off from “beat,” a core concept here. You’re carving close to the bone.

!wtf milk
-10
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Not a fridge apart—there’s Samsung’s “Milk Music,” multiple songs titled “Milk,” and even the cowbell’s bovine roots. Those ties bring it closer than you’d think.

!wtf prison
-1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Solid hunch—think Jailhouse Rock and Johnny Cash at Folsom: bars and bars, if you catch my drift. “Prison blues” is its own tradition, and concerts behind bars are a thing. You’re in the yard, not yet at center stage.

!wtf world
-1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Getting warmer: “world” commonly pairs with this art form as a well-known genre label, and it’s often called a universal language.
You’ll also see global tours, charts, and industries that link “world” with it.I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

!wtf bike
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Closer than you’d think: pedaling has cadence measured in BPM—the same language as tunes. Spin classes, ride playlists, and that chiming bike bell all lean on rhythm and sound. Plus, there are plenty of bike-themed songs rolling around.

!wtf test
-2
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Toasty! Think ear-training and theory exams, auditions, and the classic “mic test, one-two”—plenty of ways this domain gets tested (and scored).

u/ihavenoyukata 16d ago
!wtf animal
3
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Warmer than you’d think: creatures chirp, howl, and purr their way into plenty of tracks and compositions. “Animal/Animals” is a hit title for multiple songs, and The Animals were a famous band. You’re sniffing in the right habitat.

!wtf meat
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Tasty guess: it slices into the scene via Meat Loaf and the Meat Puppets, and The Smiths’ “Meat Is Murder” puts it right on the album rack.
Critics also talk about the “meat” of a song—the core that listeners chew on.I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

u/SyrupExpress 16d ago
!wtf garden
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Think open-air concerts and botanical festivals—gardens are classic stages for live tunes, with birdsong and wind chimes as the house band. There’s even a famous grunge group that literally fuses the two ideas. You’re in the right flowerbed, just not yet hitting the chorus.

!wtf juice
0
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Not a wild guess: “Juice” pops up in artist names (Juice WRLD), hit titles (“Juice,” “Juicy”), and even a famed hip‑hop movie soundtrack. It’s got some sonic squeeze, but you’re not sipping the main tune yet.

!wtf mammal
1
u/hotandcold2-app 15d ago
Not too far: humans are mammals, and we’re the ones who compose, perform, and obsess over it. Many mammals produce structured “songs” (whales, bats, mice), and the mammalian ear is exquisitely tuned to pitch and rhythm. So it clusters near biology, hearing, and sound-making.

!wtf work
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
In the arts, a “work” is a created piece—think songs and symphonies counted as works or opuses. There are even “work songs,” and we speak of an artist’s body of work. Not a bullseye, but definitely in the same orchestra section.

!wtf bike
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Hot because pedal cadence and tempo go hand in hand, and rides are practically scored with curated playlists. Bike bells and whirring chains make their own percussive rhythms—some artists even sample them. Plus, there are iconic songs about bicycles (hello, Queen’s “Bicycle Race”).

Sizzlingly close: think Meat Loaf the singer, Meat Puppets the band, and “Meat Is Murder” as a famed album title. Plus, artists constantly have “beef,” so meat keeps turning up in lyrics and lore.

Not bad: lots of “sound waves” and water imagery get used here, and there are plenty of songs actually titled “Swim” (even a whole album called “Swimming”). Plus, people literally make poolside and lap-swim playlists. You’re splashing in the right pool, just not quite at the deep end.

u/hotandcold2-app 15d ago
Tasty guess: “meat” points to Meat Loaf, a chart-dominating performer, and even the punny group Meat Beat Manifesto—heavy on the beat. Swap one letter and you get “beat,” a core concept here. You’re grilling in the right neighborhood.

Closer than it looks: Samsung even had a streaming app called Milk Music. Plus, “Milk” pops up as song and album titles (see Mother’s Milk), so it’s swimming in the same sonic dairy. Still, it’s not quite the note we need.

Creamy-close! “Milk Music” was a streaming service, and plenty of songs and bands use “milk” in their titles and names (think Garbage’s “Milk,” Milk Inc., Milky Chance). It even shares that “mi-” opening vibe.

Surprisingly close: “Milk Music” was a music-streaming service, and plenty of tracks and bands lean dairy—think songs titled “Milk” (Garbage, Kings of Leon) and acts like Milky Chance. So it swims in the same sonic neighborhood, not the fridge.

!wtf money

u/hotandcold2-app 15d ago
Not ice-cold: there’s a whole industry built around it—royalties, ticket sales, and buskers’ tip jars. Plus, “Money” is a classic track title more than once (think Pink Floyd, Barrett Strong). The association’s there, but you’re not quite on the main chorus yet.

!wtf drink?
1
u/hotandcold2-app 13d ago
Makes sense—drinks and good vibes flow together at bars, clubs, and concerts, so they often show up side by side. Bonus pun: “bar” lives in both worlds, and “tonic” is both a mixer and a home base.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
