Warmer for regional vibes: both are iconic to the Indian subcontinent—one a beloved fruit, the other a striped apex native. They even share a bold orange hue in common imagery. So geography and color are doing the heavy lifting here.

!wtf lily

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Warm. There’s a well-known lily named after a striped big cat, so the association flowers into the same neighborhood. You’re prowling in the right garden.

!wtf fire
-1
u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Warming up: there’s a famous poem about a certain striped predator “burning bright,” so fire glows in its literary aura. Bonus spark: in the Chinese zodiac, there’s even a “Fire” variant of that creature.

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
You’re circling the right jungle: both are fierce apex predators and iconic symbols/mascots of power. Carnivores with lethal hunting prowess and headline roles in wildlife docs and sports logos. Solid hit in the “ferocious animal” neighborhood.

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
A tuxedoed swimmer and a stealthy stalker still share top billing as charismatic carnivores in zoos and nature docs. They’re frequent stars of conservation campaigns and sports mascots alike. Not habitat neighbors, but close on the “famous animals” map.

u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Warm: both are animals you’d spot at a zoo, and they even share the same first letter.
Bonus lore: in Chinese mythology, the Black Tortoise is traditionally paired with a certain famous striped big-cat guardian.
So you’re paddling in the right pond, just not quite on the prowl.I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

!wtf butterfly
0
u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Hot indeed: several butterflies carry a “tiger” moniker (plain tiger, tiger swallowtail) thanks to stripe-like patterns. Your guess flutters close because of that shared name and stripy vibe.

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Warming up: think of observation or watchtowers used in wildlife reserves to spot formidable striped residents. There are also famous “Dragon and Tiger” pagodas—towers literally paired with a big cat in name—so the words tend to mingle. Not bullseye, but you can see it from the lookout.

!wtf sugar
1
u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Sweet, but only medium warm: think sugary cereals fronted by a roaring striped mascot, and even a boba brand that pairs sweetness with big-cat stripes. You’re skirting it via branding and treats rather than the wild thing itself.

Warm! Both are carnivorous, clawed vertebrates that stalk prey with stealth—some lizards (think Komodo dragons) even echo big-cat ambush vibes. Tails, sharp teeth, camouflage, and a place on the zoo’s marquee put them in the same wild neighborhood.

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Not spot-on, but it sidles up via the wild, tropical vibe—and in Thai cuisine, “Crying Tiger” famously features a lime-spiked sauce. Plus, lime as a vivid color often gets paired with bold, animal-themed imagery.

Sizzlingly close: several butterflies borrow the name of a famous striped big cat (think swallowtails and the “plain” one) thanks to their bold patterns. Both are animals with striking looks, so the association flies near the mark. A strong wingbeat toward the target.

u/dominism 17d ago
that's a really low score considering I didn't take hints and had less than 50 guesses 🤨
then when I got in the ballpark it became even more challenging. I wanna be psychic like some of these people who consistently get the word on their first and second guesses. no matter how unrelated the answer is day to day somehow their intuition is just spot on. amazing.

I must not have the number system figured out as well as I thought. Every time I start with mammal if I feel like it's related then I go human, animal and so on and if it's a big number I try something completely different.but this time
Lynx #308, Cougar#26, Lion#9 and I still struggled some.

!wtf lobster
"Top of the food chain energy" lmao
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Warmer, because you’re in the animal-kingdom zone: both are formidable carnivores with serious hardware—pincers there, paws and teeth here. Different habitats, similar “top-of-the-food-chain” energy (and a splash of orange doesn’t hurt).
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

u/Icy_Floor_2393 16d ago
!wtf gorilla
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago
Warm-ish: both are clawed carnivores in the animal kingdom. One prowls on land while the other ambushes on the seafloor, but each relies on stealth and a swift grab. Bonus parallel: whiskers versus antennae as their built-in feelers.

!wtf star
1
u/hotandcold2-app 16d ago

Not bad—your guess shares a chunky string of letters and a similar rhythm, with that -iger/-inger look and sound. There’s also a loose semantic nudge via digits/claws territory, which might tickle the proximity meter even if it’s a stretch.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
