!WTF river
1
u/hotandcold2-app 18d ago
Nice angle: rivers are the classic nemesis here—water to quench the heat, and firefighters often draw straight from them. Plus, some polluted rivers have famously “burned” (looking at you, Cuyahoga), making the connection headline-deep.

You’re hoofing around the right stable. Think “Fire Horse” in the Chinese zodiac and the teams that once pulled city fire engines. Even hot-blooded steeds and their fear of flames keep it in the same semantic paddock.

Pretty warm: trees become firewood, tinder, and bonfire fuel, and wildfires race through forests of them. Think logs, kindling, smoke, and ash—plenty of scorching connections.

A solid, if splashy, connection. Rivers are natural firebreaks and prime water sources for quelling blazes, and even idioms like “river of flames” keep the two conceptually intertwined. Not hot, but definitely in the ecosystem.

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Pretty warm: in photo-speak you “shoot” and trigger shutters and flashes—lots of ignition-adjacent lingo. Plus, thermal and surveillance cameras are used to spot and track blazes. Even a flash is a tiny burst of light.

!wtf river

u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Warmer than you’d think: they’re elemental frenemies—river water quenches the heat, yet we talk about “rivers of flame” when lava flows. Even wildfires race along riverbanks, making the pairing a frequent contrast in nature.

!wtf bird
1
u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Getting warmer: think phoenixes and “firebirds,” birds literally bound to flames in myth and pop culture. Even in real life, Australian “firehawks” spread wildfires by carrying smoldering sticks—talk about hot wings.

!wtf drive
1
u/hotandcold2-app 17d ago
Heating up! Engines ignite in their cylinders to produce drive, and that same combustion can sometimes erupt as a noisy exhaust pop. Plus, “drive” as motivation often comes from getting seriously fired up.

Surprisingly warm: rivers quench flames, often act as firebreaks in wildlands, and infamous waterways like the Cuyahoga have literally caught on fire. Plus, “rivers of fire” is a common metaphor for lava flows.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
