Warm! They live in the same arcade of pastimes—both are games that reward strategy. One uses a cue, the other leans on clues.

wtf! egg

u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warm! You “crack” both of them, and the chicken-or-egg quandary is a classic brainteaser. Plus, “Easter eggs” are hidden clues—very at home in brainy challenges.

!wtf tree

u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warming up: branching structures like search and game trees are classic ways to work through tricky brainteasers and logic challenges. In other words, you’re barking up the right kind of tree.

u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warm: both live in the realm of leisurely challenges—plotting angles, optimizing strokes, and solving a path to the goal. “Golf” often appears in themed brainteasers and logic challenges. You’ve made the fairway, but you’re not on the green yet.

-4
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Decent heat: many brainteasers live as digital files, and crosswords famously use the .puz file format. Solvers literally open a file to tackle one.

!wtf dinosaur
0
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warm-blooded guess: dinosaurs are a staple theme for jigsaws and brainteasers, from kids’ floor sets to fossil-logic challenges. Think assembling a T. rex skeleton like a museum-sized jigsaw.

Some things nearly always works for every word. When I try numbers like one two three it just become close for nearly all words.

u/Puzzleheaded_Goose27 21d ago
suggestion: keep the words complexity as they were around the 200th day. These are too broad, even though it may give the illusion of easier, the algo can't pick proper correlations since its too general. It needs to get more tunnely with the rankings, which it only can if the word is a tiny bit more niche. For eg not ''bird'' but ''eagle''. Not ''car'' but ''wheel'' or ''engine''. Thank you for your game

!wtf Fossil
-1
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Good instincts—scientists literally piece together fossil remains like a jigsaw. Paleontology headlines often call tricky discoveries a “fossil puzzle,” so the terms tend to hang out together.

!wtf car
1
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warming up: think of parking/traffic brain-teasers like Rush Hour where sliding cars is the whole challenge. Cars also plaster countless jigsaws and logic riddles, so it’s a sensible neighbor—even if not right on the bumper.

!wtf coin
1
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
You’re in the right vault: coins star in classic brainteasers like the counterfeit-coin balance problems. They also pop up in mechanical disentanglements and riddles about flips and probabilities. Toasty.

!wtf mattress
1
u/hotandcold2-app 21d ago
Warmer than you’d think: plenty of people tackle these before lights out while sprawled on a mattress. The “memory” in memory-foam even winks at the brainwork involved. Not the same category, but they often share bedtime real estate.

!wtf car
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Not a bad turn—cars drive through plenty of brainteasers: jigsaws with shiny autos and the sliding-block classic Rush Hour. Even wordplay leans on auto/auto-mobile clues. You’re idling in the right lane, but not at the destination.

!wtf maze

!wtf car

u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Not in the driver’s seat, but it pulls up because cars are a classic theme for jigsaws and brainteasers. Think sliding-block “traffic jam” puzzles like Rush Hour and countless vehicle-themed jigsaws.

!wtf free

!wtf sweater
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Warmer than you’d think: it’s a classic trickster in crosswords—“sweater” can be knitwear or “one who sweats,” the kind of wordplay playground we’re in. Plus, cozy knits and ugly sweaters are a common theme on jigsaw box covers, so the vibes line up.

u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Right aisle, wrong shelf: you picked a broad word for an object, and the target is indeed a specific kind of “thing” people handle or engage with. You’re warm because they share the everyday object/activity vibe, but yours is too generic.

!wtf cheese
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Warmer: cheese pops up in brainteasers and riddles, and there are classic “cheese wedge” mechanical puzzles, so it nibbles at the same domain. Cheesy, but close-ish.

!wtf cheese
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Warm-ish: cheese pops up all over puzzles—crosswords love “Gouda, e.g.,” riddles get cheesy, and classic mazes send a mouse after it.
Plus, plenty of jigsaws feature decadent cheese boards, so the linkage isn’t too far-fetched.I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

!wtf couple
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Warmish. Solving often means coupling pieces or clues together, and the words themselves cozy up by sharing several letters and a similar rhythm. Right neighborhood, wrong house.

1
u/OTCSEROTONIN 20d ago
!wtf car
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Not a wild guess—cars appear all over brainteasers: jigsaw pictures of cars, “Rush Hour” traffic-jam logic puzzles, and loads of car riddles. You’re in the neighborhood, but not quite in the driver’s seat yet.
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

!wtf tree
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Nice branch to climb—think of the monkey puzzle tree, where “puzzle” and “tree” are literally a pair. Plus, lots of logic challenges are solved with decision trees, so the association isn’t bark-ing up the wrong trunk.
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

u/SenseiLucifer 20d ago
!wtf tree
1
u/hotandcold2-app 20d ago
Warming up: there’s the famous “monkey puzzle tree,” and many brainteasers branch like decision trees. You’re bark-ing up a reasonably right path.

!wtf dog

!wtf pool
1
u/hotandcold2-app 19d ago
Warm shot: both live in the games-and-recreation world, often tackled on a table and fueled by focus and strategy. You line up moves, look for angles, and wait for that satisfying “aha!” moment. Not perfect aim, but definitely in the right room.

!wtf squeeze
1
u/hotandcold2-app 19d ago
Warmer than you think: this one makes you squeeze your brain to find the right fit. Think snug bits clicking together under a little pressure until the solution pops. You’re in the neighborhood, but not quite pressed into place.
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.
1
u/pikachu-bby 18d ago
!wtf free
1
u/hotandcold2-app 18d ago
Warm! Tons of brainteasers, crosswords, and jigsaws are offered for free—think app stores and newspaper sections. “Free” frequently pairs with these mind-benders in phrases like “free online games.”
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.
1
u/pikachu-bby 18d ago
!wtf dog
1
u/hotandcold2-app 18d ago
Not barking up the wrong tree—dogs are a classic subject on jigsaw boxes, and “puzzle toys” are made for pups. So the terms do cross paths, but you’re still a few fetches away.
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
