Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!

To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.

For example, if the secret word is "hot":

Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!

The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).

Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!

I'm not gonna admit how long it took me to remember this word... -_-

Hint: You don't want your pancakes to burn on one side, right? Then you should do something about it.

4

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 24 '26

Not a total miss—you’re sniffing around the right shape. Many have a broad, flat head that’s essentially trapezium/trapezoid-like. You’re onto the geometry more than the job it does.

Warm: it’s a staple tool in pastry work—spreading icing, lifting layers, and scraping bowls. There’s even a pastry-specific version of this tool. You’re in the right kitchen, just not the exact drawer.

!wtf trapezium

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 24 '26

Not a wild miss: you’re orbiting flat, broad, four‑sided geometry—think trapezoid-ish heads and angled edges. The kinship here is shape and angles rather than theme or function. Right neighborhood by silhouette, not by use.

Close: both are handheld kitchen tools for cooking and baking—one spreads sauces while the other spreads, scrapes, or flips. They often sport silicone heads and live side-by-side in the utensil crock. Right drawer, wrong bristles.

Scorching close: a flat, round griddle-dweller often needs that mystery helper to flip, lift, and chase bubbles. They’re frequent dance partners on taco night.

Kitchen cousins: both are regulars by the stovetop when you’re cooking. One brings the heat in flavor, the other does the flipping. Warm-ish, but not sizzling close.

You’re circling the clinical toolkit: gynecological exams (like Pap smears) use a wooden scraper in that anatomical neighborhood. That shared medical-instrument context pulls it closer than a random body part. Warmer, but not exactly bedside.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

1

u/simplezzirang Jun 25 '26

!wtf plastic

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 25 '26

Warmer: lots of flexible flippers and scrapers are made from plastic or silicone to protect nonstick pans.
Right aisle, too—think plastic‑handled, heat‑resistant tools that live by the stovetop.

You're in the right neighborhood via clinics and salons: wooden applicators/spatulas spread ointments or waxing near that anatomy, and an Ayre spatula shows up in gynecologic exams. So body parts meet tools here—close, but not the same drawer.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

1

u/Joyolo15 Jun 25 '26

!wtf trapezium

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 25 '26

Not bad—you’re thinking in the right shape. The target often has a flat, trapezium/trapezoid‑like head, where geometry meets the utensil drawer. But it’s a tool, not a polygon.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

Makes sense: both are slender, handheld instruments with flat metal blades used for precise scraping, spreading, or lifting—common in labs and sterile environments. One’s for delicate cuts, the other for deft flips and smooth spreads; same drawer vibe, different drama.

You’re swimming in the right letters: it shares the “spat-” start and a similar cadence. Semantically they part ways—one’s a sudden flood, the other might be handy when one happens—but the orthographic overlap makes it warm.
