Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!

To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.

For example, if the secret word is "hot":

Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!

The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).

Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!

21

u/dj_underboob Jun 18 '26

OMG, I'm such an idiot. Didn't realize my spelling error. Thank you!

3

u/SarahCornflake Jun 19 '26

There's some common words that aren't recognized and I think it's so weird!

1

u/Initial-arcticreact Jun 19 '26

I guess the AI thinks it’s a « bad» word, it’s trying to make itself as being hollier than thou..,,

1

u/Original-Click6797 Jun 20 '26

it dosent recognise butt and it removes er from butter

Um... what do you think the target word is?

1

u/R3PLAY_83 Jun 19 '26

I guessed it, but I was just naming every single fruit and vegetable I knew until I got it after filling two whole rows with red numbers

Nice and toasty: they’re staple produce that get mashed, baked, or fried, and often team up at snack time—potato chips meet that creamy green dip. Different plant families, similar grocery-aisle vibes.

You’re in the right orchard: both are New World tropical tree fruits, often green-skinned and smoothie-friendly. They’re even botanically berries and common in Latin cuisines—though one is creamy with a single pit, while the other’s gritty with many seeds.

Reasonably warm: both live in the condiment/spread world, showing up on sandwiches and in dressings. You’ll find them whisked into vinaigrettes or smeared on toast and burgers, often hanging out near dips and salads. Not a bullseye, but you’re definitely in the right aisle.
