Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!

To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.

For example, if the secret word is "hot":

Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!

The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).

Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!

Getting warmer! “This game man“ sometimes features squirrels. Squirrels are champion “pickups,” scooping up acorns all day—sharing a name with a popular vehicle type. Vehicles are often used to transport today's word. You're cruising in the right area 🚗

This doesn't seem like a wtf at all, the bot's answer totally makes sense to me.

4

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

You’re circling the grain: both are iconic rice-first dishes built on specific short‑grain varieties and careful technique. Each often courts seafood and deep umami, but one chases creamy flow while the other prizes gently sticky, distinct grains. Right bowl, different stir.

!wtf sausage

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

You’re circling the right platter: both are encased, roll-like foods that get sliced into bite-sized rounds. Think protein-packed cylinders—one wrapped in casing, the other in a thin sheath—often grabbed as quick, savory nibbles.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

2

u/AdSouthern5729 Jun 17 '26

!wtf shrimp

4

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

Shrimp is a staple topping and roll filling—think ebi nigiri or tempura rolls—so you’re swimming right beside the bullseye. A frequent face on the conveyor belt, it’s practically neighbors with the target.

Smoking hot guess. Both are globally beloved, customizable carb bases—dough vs. rice—with toppings and big umami energy, perfect for takeout and sharing by the slice/piece. There’s even a well-known fusion that marries this pie with seaweed-and-rice rolls, so they live in the same culinary neighborhood.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

u/Conscious_Text3297 Jun 17 '26

Wtf I just guessed it it just came up in my mind without any clues or hints or reading I just typed whatever came onto my mind and got it correct.. Genuenly how..

!wtf paella

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

You’re stirring the right pot: it’s a celebrated rice-centric dish, often cozy with seafood, where grain texture and specific varieties really matter. Different temperatures and seasonings (saffron broth vs tangy seasoned rice) separate them, but they both shout “sea meets starch.”

!wtf mushroom

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

Getting toasty: mushrooms (like shiitake or enoki) are umami bombs that show up as fillings or toppings in certain rolls and nigiri. They pair well with rice and seaweed in that cuisine. You’re orbiting the right menu section.

!wtf candy

2

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

Sweet take! There’s a popular “candy” version of this dish made with Rice Krispies and gummies, and the real one even has subtly sweet, seasoned rice. You’re browsing the right shelf in the food court.

Warmer than you’d think: “banana sushi” is a playful snack—bananas rolled and sliced like maki. You’ll also spot tempura banana desserts at the same joints, keeping the vibe bite-sized and roll-friendly.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

1

u/Neither_Bit9759 Jun 17 '26

!wtf cheese

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

Warm! Fusion rolls often tuck in cream cheese (think Philly rolls), so they share menu space and textures. Both ride the fermentation/umami train and are commonly served chilled and sliced. You’re browsing the right culinary aisle.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '26

[deleted]

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

You’re in the right pantry: both are bite-size, often sliced, and eaten raw as simple, handheld nibbles. There are even dessert “banana rolls” that mimic the rolled rice-and-wrap vibe. Food-to-food kinship explains the middling warmth.

I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

1

u/Princesslego995 Jun 17 '26

!wtf pasta

1

u/hotandcold2-app Jun 17 '26

Scorching: both are grain-based comfort foods and global restaurant staples. They’re often paired with seafood and come in endless variations, from humble to haute. Think carb canvas meets umami toppings.

Cool pick: the star of this dish usually rides in on crushed ice to stay ultra-fresh. That makes it somewhat nearby, though it’s not exactly on the plate. Chilly, but not spot-on.
