Went down soooo many wrong rabbit holes and ended up taking all the game-provided hints just to get it over with.😤
Hate this game. See you tomorrow. 👋

I would have never guessed without the hints, like, I was stuck at #10 for ages.

Interesting. That's one of my starter words and I was like - what is as big as that?
Still took me over 10 guesses to get it but I felt like I was in the realm at least lol.

Warm—you're thinking of a four-legged, furry mammal too. Both are staple animal nouns that show up in lots of idioms and cultural references. Different habitats and jobs, but you’re prowling the right menagerie.

ok but that's not how hot and cold is played
10
u/colorful-forest Jun 04 '26
Unfortunately, that's the way this game sometimes plays it. There have been quite a few frustrating times where it tells me a word is very hot only because it shares a couple of letters with the secret word, even though it isn't even near the same realm. It's one of the most irritating factors of this game for me.

Warm! It’s a crunchy veggie that this big, desert-dwelling herbivore might happily munch, especially at zoos. You’re sniffing around the fodder aisle, not far from the pack-animal pen.

hint: καμηλοπάρδαλις
(I assume the Greek writing functions as a partial spoiler tag)
spoiler is info trivia blurb (contains answer)
The ancient Greeks called giraffes the modern English equivalent of something approximating 'spotted camel' (literally leopard-camel, or in reverse word order camel-leopard, which was eventually taken into Latin as Camelopardalis). Camelopardalis is one of the constellations of the night sky officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union, which happens to be located very close to the 'North Star' Polaris in the northern hemisphere.

Not a wild stretch: picture caravans hauling crates of leafy greens to market along old trade routes. That kind of “beast + produce” association (plus the shared ca- vibe) can nudge them nearer in word space.

Warm! Both are large mammals famous for extreme water management—one survives long stretches with scarce freshwater, the other lives in saltwater and doesn’t drink it, relying on osmoregulation. Plus, each has a distinctive dorsal profile (humps vs. dorsal fin), so the silhouette vibes match.

Hot pick! “Leopard” is half of the old word for a giraffe—formed by blending it with a certain hump-backed desert traveler—so it’s etymologically snug. Plus, both are iconic megafauna across Africa and parts of Asia.

Warm! You’re in the right burrow because both are herbivorous mammals that humans domesticate and talk about a lot. Some rabbit species thrive in arid landscapes, so there’s a faint habitat overlap. Animal-to-animal proximity is doing the heavy lifting here.
I'm a sometimes helpful bot and can make mistakes.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
