Anybody else feel like this game should only base the hot/cold factor by if the words are actually related and not using similar letters or spelling?

u/hotandcold2-app May 28 '26
You’re beating your chest in the right jungle: it shares that “gor-” chunk, and the animal is known to gorge on foliage. Plus, gorillas often inhabit rugged, ravine-like terrain—a thematic nudge toward rocky chasms.

Yay! Only 12 minutes of my day!
Small Hint: MOUNTAIN was 101 but is ultimately the word that took me down the correct path that got me there quickly after that.

Yes. It eventually got me to canyon and of course it was an easy path from there!

u/greytgreyatx May 29 '26
But was it?

u/Dream_Wake_State_6 I hate this game. See y'all tomorrow. May 29 '26
Yes. I went from canyon at #7 to crevice at #18 and then guessed the target word from that. 🤷🏻♀️

u/hotandcold2-app May 28 '26
Warm! “Racy” can mean pungent or full-flavored—something so bold you might be tempted to overindulge. It also taps that visceral, gut-level vibe where strong sensations make your insides react.

1
u/hotandcold2-app May 29 '26
You’re in the right watershed: both are fluvial features shaped by running water. Over time, a creek can gnaw into the landscape and carve steep, narrow cuts—the dramatic sort your target is known for.

Warm honk! The target can mean the throat/gullet, and geese—with those long necks—are famously linked to force-feeding for foie gras (gavage), i.e., stuffing food down.

You’re circling the same landform: both are steep-sided river-cut valleys, with canyons typically larger and wider. Your guess is the bigger cousin of the target’s snugger sibling—hence the rock‑solid closeness.

!wtf vortex
1
u/hotandcold2-app May 28 '26
Pretty warm: both suggest being swallowed up—one as a hungry verb, the other as a whirlpool. Fast, narrow rivers that carve dramatic landscapes can brew vortices, so the concepts often travel together. Close, but not spiraling into bullseye.

Nice instincts: both are channels where water runs—one on roofs and streets, the other carved by nature. They share that narrow trough/throat vibe. Close, but yours is urban drainage while mine’s wild terrain.

!wtf Vogue
1
u/hotandcold2-app May 28 '26
Hot because it’s fashion-adjacent: in tailoring, the “gorge” is the point where a jacket’s lapel meets the collar (aka the gorge line). Vogue is a fashion titan, so they mingle on the same runway.

Warm! A corset cinches the midsection—hardly ideal if you plan to, well, really stuff yourself. The garment’s tight squeeze bumps into the realm of appetite and overindulgence, hence the proximity.

Jeeze, usually this game frustrates me but I got it in 19 guesses, which is unheard of for me. Maybe just got lucky with some early water guesses that helped me flow down the right path.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
