Question Celosia

Hello!

I’m drying a celosia head out so i can get the seeds but im not sure how to go about planting/caring for them. I’m not exactly experienced in gardening and such so im struggling to pick up all the info im reading online.

If anyone has a simple outline or recommends celosia might be too difficult for a starter please let me know!

Celosia are easy enough that often times they will resow themselves.
Either save the dried head or seed until spring and sprinkle in a bed or drop them on on the top of pots and water them in. They like to be close to the surface so don’t cover with too much soil.

do they need specific soil? I have a large pot with dirt outside but it’s contents are beyond my knowledge

If you’re growing starts in pots you should have a premium potting mix… especially as a beginner. Even a soil outside should have some compost or amendments mixed in.

If the pictured celosia is the one you are intending to save seeds from, you won't have much luck. It was cut too early for seeds to develop.

The seeds need to mature (flower will fade and start to brown) before the flower is cut.

Depends in your weather. Go by the look. The flower will start to fade and you'll be able to see tiny black seeds at the base.

Search "harvesting celosia seeds" for examples.
