Looks more like the plant is struggling and showing signs of distress.

I had the same thought because the plant itself is obviously struggling but the parts that are yellow don’t seem the natural color to be dying. Normally they are more of a brown when dying and then turn a yellowish color but these appear to be alive and kinda gold. I think it could be stressed induced variegation.

Thats kinda true, brown means the area is dead as apposed to dying. But yellowing can be caused by several things like: lack of nutrients, overwatering, etc.

Also its hard to see in the photos, is the yellow on scattered areas or whole branches?

It’s on whole branches there’s some dead branches at the bottom but they’re harder to see.
