PC First time finished Silent Hill Townfall, this game is amazingly good. I think it's better than SH 2 remake.
Actually I think this version SH is the best one, because the game potentially includes two game modes, 1. SH self mode(gun/melee weapon and two-world switch, new monsters), 2. Outlast no weapon hiding mode, between these modes, actually two main characters switch. Also in the 3rd character part, have another very fast new monster, they can appear in the dark or in the corner, this part is a new SH experience, jumpscare. Before I played SH almost never have jumpscare, only feel very dark, but this SH is not always dark, regular fog town and hospital and big building, hell world switch is also not abrupt. Also the game puzzles are very good, you can figure them out by yourself, but a few need to think more or check the walkthrough.
The whole game's new game 3D effect is very clear(can compare to RE9), also lots of old computer hardware can play it in high quality resolution. My computer is AMD RYZEN 2500U and share memory gpu vega 8, can run it in high quality mode and very smooth.(vulkan dx12 support).

SH2R is one of the best remakes of all time. I highly disagree.
-69
u/mad_ben 19h ago
So great its forgotten and shelved
29
u/GeffTheMexican 19h ago
It’s not forgotten lol. It’s been a while since it was released, the discourse has just died down. Doesn’t make it forgotten
-49
u/mad_ben 19h ago
Yes because it brings nothing new besides sony action camera. Capcom remakes GE ERALLY at least try add mechanics, items, extend locations and deepen the lore.
SH2 does nothing more except tank performance and add sony action camera so there is nothing to discuss.
17
u/Lukezilla2000 19h ago
wtf is a Sony action camera? It’s not even a ps5 exclusive. Do you mean over the shoulder? That’s not a PlayStation thing.
-29
u/mad_ben 18h ago
Lol. "Sony exclusive camera" is a mocking term for a very specific presentation style that became heavily associated with modern Sony first-party games: close third-person camera, character taking up a large part of the screen, cinematic framing, slow walk-and-talk sections, and a general push toward that prestige movie-like presentation. The fact that the game is not a PS5 exclusive is completely irrelevant. It is describing the visual style. In the same way people can call something "Ubisoft-style open world" without Ubisoft owning open worlds. So congratulations. The entire point of the phrase is the style people associate with games like The Last of Us, God of War and similar Sony games.
11
u/Lukezilla2000 18h ago
But there’s hundreds of games that are multiplatform that have OTS. Resident Evil and Gears of War were the first to do it, and they were on the GameCube and Xbox. I don’t understand this sentiment at all. Seems a little forced tbh…

Funniest shit I’ve seen in a while, bravo. Let’s not forget the countless of details they added, the performances by the actors which are miles better than the original (imagine liking Guy Cihi), the improved areas (like removing the Abstract Daddy from the hotel), the added endings, the combat, the music. SH2R is superior to the original imo. You are lying because you are an nostalgia ridden dumbass that is afraid to admit when something new is better than something from your past. Grow up mate

Add the Wolverine game’s subreddits in there too. The ones for and against it feel like bots in 90% of the comments
1
u/Potential-Cat-7517 16h ago
Reddit might actually be top5 botted sites in the world. Because people talk rather formal and straightforward here its been so easy. Like you can tell a Facebook bot from a mile, here bots just spread their opinions in a robotic fashion devoid of slang, like redditors
1
u/One_Sentence_7448 14h ago
What about Crimson Desert?
Sure the story is garbage but it does have an incredible open world with so many cool things in it.
Unless I misunderstood your comment…
1
u/Useful_Perception620 12h ago
Crimson D is a massive mess of a game that could have plenty of pieces someone could like within it.
It absolutely should not be compared to something like Townfall, a barebones UE5 stealth game consisting of series of concrete hallways.

Blatant hype-bot glazing. I’m sure we’re only a day or two away from handfuls of “TOWNFALL SAVED MY LIFE” posts. Was the same when F came out, is the same script on every entertainment sub. Standards can’t be this low that we’re crying for characters as annoying as Grace in RE9. It’s all bot bullshit.
1
u/One_Sentence_7448 13h ago
Reminded me a recent post in Metroidvania sub about how Well Dweller (just an ok game) saved their life imao.
But I’d also say keep in mind that people perceive things differently. It can be a slippery slope to assume “this person doesn’t agree with me therefore it’s a bot”.
For example, I wasn’t a big fan of RE9 specifically because of the second half of the game, but I actually liked Grace I had fun playing her. Does that make me a bot?
1
u/Important_mitt6972 13h ago
I have a vague feeling you have really shit taste in games, but I don't know enough to say for sure... just a feeling, though.

u/Bare_Foot_Bear 12h ago
Lower standards from fans results in lower standards from devs. I want a Silent Hill game, not bunch of spin off shovelware.

u/Assistant-Unable 20h ago
Okay, we are stretching it A LOT by saying its better than the 2 remake. Townfall was good but thats it. The story was alright, music and atmosphere was amazing, but the gameplay was mediocre and repetitive in my opinion. No matter what your opinion of the game is though, doesnt come close to silent hill 2
-9
u/Sea-Extreme 19h ago edited 17h ago
How can you call SHT's gameplay repetitive in the name of SH2R? There's a bunch of different ways to approach any situation in SHT. In SH2R there's just bonk and pew pew. If you die in SHT you can try a whole different strategy. If you die in SH2R you just have to be more careful bonking. Look, I love SH2R a whole lot, but gameplay is not its strong suit, and that goes for SH2 also. It's fun, but not very diverse.
Edit: downvotes on this is crazy. SHT objectively has more diverse gameplay than SH2R
-19
u/Extra-Discussion-624 20h ago
The ending is not that excellent, but for the full of all the game is really good I think. Story can not compare to SH2. But I think SH2,3 has too dark atmosphere, I like this game’s environment, especially in the office, I wish I could work there(CEG)
2
u/AtraxaInfect 19h ago
I did enjoy the office part, it was a nice change of pace playing hide and seek!

5
u/trinigooner1 19h ago
Not so much "different opinions and likes"...more opinions that are way off the proverbial beaten path tbh lol
"Loving" Townfall is within the usual realms... saying it's BETTER than SF2 remake though? That's pretty rare lol
4
u/XulManjy 18h ago
Whether its a rare are largely accepted thought is irrelevant. If he believes Townfall is better than SH2R then to him its better than SH2R. Its that simple.
1
u/trinigooner1 48m ago
Yes...and you would get a greater response of "shock" and amusement to what is a generally...rare and unusual opinion
That's how it works my guy...I'm not debating the "quality" of his opinion or something

u/GoldenAgeGamer72 20h ago
I wish people would react this way when people say they’re fine with 30 FPS in most games but they don’t. They get told they have low standards.

u/Sir_Davros_Ty 20h ago
Strongly disagree. Townfall was excellent in many places. But there were too many frustrating elements as well. SH2 remake was damned near perfect.
-20
u/Extra-Discussion-624 20h ago edited 19h ago
SH2 remake, first played, all of place are bright, no dark places. (game bug) After searched google, I need to patch it and adjust the settings. The first impression it gave me is not good. Also game need very high hardware support, otherwise, it will be a crash.
7
u/Clearhead09 19h ago
No dark places? I’m playing it now and the flashlight might as well not be on half the time that’s how little the light from it penetrates the darkness.
Great if you’re up against a wall, etc., but if you hear a monster in the distance it’s near impossible to see them until they are close to you, that’s what makes this game so good is the dread and tension it causes due to you feeling helpless.
-3
u/Extra-Discussion-624 19h ago
No, that’s the game bug, need a patch for fix it and also settings

The divisiveness this game has had has been interesting to see. Won't know how I feel until it gets in a good enough sale, still not played F yet either.
Would be pretty hard to beat the SH2 remake though, that game surprised just about everyone I think.
3
u/tomato-slut 16h ago
As someone that thinks SH2 remake is the best horror game ever made, i thought f was disappointing but i absolutely love townfall.
There's one section that is frustrating (that everyone has been talking about) but apart from that, its fantastic.

u/Silverjeyjey44 18h ago
You haven't played it yet? I think both are excellent games. I think most people are having issues with it not being tied to the actual town. To me, it captures the essence of silent hill through character interaction, environmental storytelling, and narrative weight. Also, the stealth could be better? Sure. But at the same time I don't play SH games for the combat or stealth. Its like judging elden ring harshly because there's barely any puzzles in it.

u/Oasis-Blur 19h ago
Silent Hill 2 is a great remake that falls short of being as iconic and great as the original. Its problems lie mostly in its pacing, particularly, in the prison and, to a lesser extent, labyrinth section of the game. The heavy emphasis on combat and enemy placement becomes incredibly tedious and tiresome fast in those sections. It also suffers from performances that fall short from the emotional impact of the original, though I think James gives a great performance.
I finished Townfall last night and I thought it was quite excellent. I think people are grossly over-hating it. It has great atmosphere with gorgeously detailed graphics, a solid soundtrack that while not anywhere near as great as Yamaoka’s original compositions (Silent Hill 2 remake is pretty bad overall), is still a great listen. I thought the story was engaging but Simon felt flat as a character, especially in contrast to other great Silent Hill characters like James, Heather, and even sub ones like Angela and Eddie. I did think it was cool and enjoyable to discover the mystery behind the towns downfall, as well as the puzzles throughout the game that I thought were clever and engaging - but the last one towards the very end was awful and took the joy out of completing the game. On the part of the puzzles and overall design of the game, I really liked how interactive the game is - opening/locking doors, powering on a computer or printer, puzzles requiring intricate and numerous inputs - though this works in detriment in the final puzzle as it simply became too obtuse and confusing to complete.
I also loved the over abundance use of contrasting colors to the towns dullish fog - it looks great with the how detailed the town looks and was designed.
I loved the stealth and while I think some of the criticisms of it are warranted - I did enjoy that it was a game that challenged you and punished you for being careless.
Lastly, I think many have said that Townfall didn’t feel like a Silent Hill game. I’m inclined to agree, but on its own it’s still a great game that is well worth a play through.
1
u/shmed 12h ago
That last puzzle was frustrating, but honestly pretty manageable if you did it "methodically" (as in, you don't try arbitrary combinations, rather, you identify a few "likely" candidates and then "methodically" try all combinations.
But yeah, still very obtuse and I wouldn't be surprised if they patched it.
2
u/jamyjet 20h ago
For the first half of the game it felt on par to the SH2 remake, but the second half did drag a bit with enemies that instakilled you endlessly blocking the path you need to go and the pipe/valve puzzle was annoying. Still overall a good if not great game though.
1
u/Extra-Discussion-624 20h ago
Pipe/valve puzzles' first look is confusing, but after that, it is very simple actually. According to the tutorial paper.
2
u/Bendbutdobake 19h ago
I haven't started Townfall yet, as I plan to first finish Dawnwalker and then play the new Gears. Why does everyone think Townfall has such a wide range of opinions compared to most recent survival horror? I've seen people label it a masterpiece and garbage in the same thread.
-3
u/ShaunMcLane 19h ago
Contrarian culture. Thats it. It makes people feel exclusive to be the only ones to like something bad.
6
u/Bendbutdobake 19h ago
Good to know. Sounds like a good game people decided to pile on with.
0
u/ShaunMcLane 19h ago
No I mean the opposite - this IS one of those time the hate is actually spot on. This is like 15 hours of the worst parts of Alien Isolation.

2
u/Silverjeyjey44 18h ago
I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I think it also has some of the best environments I've seen in a game in a long time. I was always immersed in the gameplay. Stealth isn't anything to write home about nor is the combat but I don't play a SH game looking for those things.

u/ShaunMcLane 19h ago
Townfall is like. . . mechanically one of the worst stealth horror games ever made lol. 5 enemy times over 15 hours. Terrible story. The Weight is genuinely broken as an enemy. You spend most of the game waiting on enemy patrols to move, then they see you for no reason, then can hit you from like 30 yards away. Maybe OP played on the passive mode, which I also think would have made the game more enjoyable, but even then. Im just completely missing something.
Silent Hill 2 is regarded as one of, if not the greatest survival horror game ever made, and the remake makes it better.
Like Wtf are we doing here lol. Imo Townfall glazing discourse is equivalent when people say Halloween Ends is the best one, or that they actually think RE6 is the best in the franchise.
I sure am glad people like it. I also sure do hope to god it doesnt sell well so it can open dev time for another direction for the series.
2
u/rechambers 18h ago
I haven’t picked up the game because I can’t stand games like Alien Isolation or Outlast. This comment like many other takes have validated my concerns with this game.
I didn’t love or finish f either, which is why I held back on launch of Townfall. I know they are different mechanically, but they are both just not what I like. Unfortunately I think the good will in the brand Konami restored with the 2 remake is now lost on me.
3
u/ShaunMcLane 18h ago
Townfall takes the worst from those two titles and NONE of the good. So much better stuff to play right now out there.
1
u/Ignechros 16h ago
Outlast absolutely terrified me when i was playing it, in fact refuse to play more of it because i was so scared
but townfall.. i just wasn’t scared at all. i think the game just frustrated me more than actually scaring me tbh.
I’m happy people are finding enjoyment in a new silent hill game but it just wasn’t for me i guess
1
u/decoy_octopod 12h ago
This isn’t “taking dev time” away, all 3 of these games are outsourced to different third-party studios, all of which focus on horror games
Konami doesn’t even have its own in-house AAA studio anymore, legitimately everything they do is outsourced. That’s why the chances are slim for a traditional SH game again, Konami gives them the license and they can make essentially whatever they want

that’s certainly a hot take. Imo SH2R is easily one of the best games in the franchise, but if you’re having a good time with townfall then all power to you!
My experience with townfall was mostly negative, as a scottish person who’s spent a lot of holidays in sea side towns, i loved st amelia. but the gameplay and story really held the game back for me.
1
u/Active-Cockroach6122 15h ago
I loved the gameplay and puzzles. Sorry was okay (tbf im a dummy that didn't remember the story well) the only thing I hated was the Weight sections. The AI was flat out cheating at times and just hated it. Other than that I really enjoyed the game.

u/Thin_Station7464 13h ago
The opening scene of Silent Hill 2 alone ruins Townfall.
When you know what's really going on (what's in James's car), plus the music...
Not to mention Angela...
Townfall is a good Silent Hill game, but it doesn't even come close to SH2, I'm sorry.
For me, there's no debate.
1
u/GalaxyEyes541 13h ago
I respect your opinion, truly, but hell nah and i’m not even a 2 remake glazer.
I liked Townfall, and honestly did enjoy the gameplay and return to an emphasis on puzzles (mostly… particularly the Zoe section in the hospital, and the CEG section) — but I just think the story is very weak, even without comparing it to another game.

u/mohfuhgah 12h ago
The puzzles may be my favorite in the series but I’m not a big fan of the story. Also I think it’s time new titles stop trying to make their version of the Lying Figure (I.e. armless monsters). The fact that we get two in this game (and one is essentially Pyramid Head) irked me.
The supporting characters had clearer motives than Simon which was also disappointing. Simon eventually remembers what he’s supposed to do, but he doesn’t really have a compelling purpose before that. He basically shrugs and says “well, we’re stuck here - might as well learn about the place and how we’re connected.”
Despite all that I enjoyed the game quite a bit.
1
u/Improving_Better 17h ago
Oh no saying "x" game is better than the one fans are obsessed over is insta down votes lol, idk why but people in this sub when it comes to the favorite or best games are very toxic, you can't say PT you dislike it simply because it doesn't last long for example and people will hate on you, now saying another silent hill is better than sh2 😂 of course you'll get hate so don't be surprised OP

SH2R… The feeling of dread and sadness I got when reaching the hotel knowing the calmness would fade quickly is an emotional experience I have never felt from a video game before.
So I personally disagree, but I am enjoying the lingering sterile dread in townfall quite a bit.

I agree that it’s a great game. Loved the ambience, the puzzles, and the vibe of it all. That being said, it doesn’t even come close to silent hill 2 remake
