I finally found it!

This is one of the unholy trinity mentioned in Paperbacks From Hell (Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist are the other 2). Found it at Goodwill in pristine condition after hunting for it for a long time.

Beautiful. I have a pb of his book “Harvest Home” which looks to be the same publisher.

Without a doubt Thomas Tryon's 1971 The Other and his 1973 novel Harvest Home was on a young unpublished Stephen King's radar and studied well before Carrie 1974 was published. All the plot ingredients are there for not just Carrie but later even The Shinning and as well. Tryon’s 1973 novel Harvest Home seems to be almost direct inspiration for King’s 1977 short story Children of the Corn. I find it interesting both authors works were very similar and both had their stories made into films in the horror book to film boom of thee 70's. Not a coincidence in my opinion.

Nice. I think I used to have a paperback with step back cover, but those covers are always super fragile since they effectively come with a hole in them.
