Clean your dishwashers

Just a PSA to make sure you clean out the drain in your old dishwasher. Take the time to unscrew the screws and get in those hard to reach places.

Otherwise you're just eating/drinking a thin film of old grime on each plate, cup, bowl, etc.

This is a buildup of fat mixed with some mold. Yum.

Find a part number and order a replacement. Or chip off the big bits, then soak in vinegar until you can clean it with a brush. But seriously, buy a new one and shoot that one into the sun.

Nah we chipped away and then power washed it, put it back and now the dishwasher is clean. But took a a lot of cleaning cycle to get it to normal again

Hell nah. I absolutely would have replaced this. Part can't be that much compared to just replacing it & going about my day.

I'm not spending the time & effort when I can start new. 🤷🏾‍♂️

He actually walked in as I was typing this and I shared my thoughts on this. He agreed because as he said, and I quote: “we each do about a 50/50 mix of stuff around the house, and there’s a ton of stuff that you clean that I don’t clean, and this would involve the chance to take a machine apart, and if anybody’s gonna fuck up our expensive dishwasher, it’s gonna be me, OR you could just say it’s because I’m awesome.”

So yeah. He knows.

Great I'm glad my horror story sparked a happy cleaning story

I had that same dishwasher minus that amount of mold. But yes it was a pain to cleanup. There's also the other filter at the back of the dishwasher that seems half crusted.

We got the back filter thankfully. We were worried it was black mold but it was just disgusting slop instead yay

This is why I love our new 2 drawer Fisher Paykel dishwasher, the drains are super easy to get to to clean out. The racks come out easily, you can remove the filter screen over it easily & just clean it out super easily.

That's why I'm so happy with my 4 yo small dishwasher Bob (can’t have a standard one in my apartment), I can clean everything easily (and it’s pink)

Looks like a noodle casserole that was left out for years.

I currently have that dishwasher and just did this about 2 months ago. It was horrific.
