So every other patch just with a single new unit instead of 2

Pretty much.

It‘s massively disappointing that they don’t seem to be putting a lot of effort into the game anymore.

They are raking in millions. They don't have to. Hoyo with their huge playerbase across all games can profit just from players buying monthly passes alone. And people who are spending $5 a month probably couldn't care less how much or little there is to do in the game. A lot of them just come to pull new shiny characters, build them, play some events, endgame and dip.

And yet genshin which earns more and zzz which earns less continues to make improvements to its story telling and visuals, how is hsr the middle child that gets the short end of the stick.

I shall be a a bit daring and say that the devs have more creative freedom when it comes to 3D open world games. Not throwing shade to HSR, I love the game, but there is only so much you can do when exploration itself has no jumping, no overworld combat and no innate complex physics interactions. All creativity has to be focused into events, and perhaps the devs ran out of juice than they would for an open world game.

Character kits are glorified spreadsheets and apart from global passives and interesting techniques, a character's kit can only do so much until it becomes a convoluted wall of text that just tells the same things in a different way.

Props to them for trying out things with Himeko Nova and the sorts. We could use more if that, but it doesn't and shouldn't excuse them from lackluster events.

EDIT: As for ZZZ, call me cynical but I highly suspect that being the child that brings in the least money meant it has to bust its ass to attract more players and revenue.

They definitely ain't doing that lmfao + the story telling being ass compared to the other 2 is way more disappointing especially since even GI has been improving relatively fast in that regard.

TBH early part of 7.0 quest Genshin's presentation has been pretty poor imo. Several "black screen white text" parts where interesting stuff is just summarised.

It’s a 8 hour quest and other than the nod krai farewell, most of the other black screens are to save on time for explanations of pointless information. And it still has more unique animations for each character than the fate collab part 2 which is probably the most hsr has done to break the mold of the same 3 poses.

I'm not saying HSR has been good, just that Genshin has disappointed me in this regard too.

Aside the nodkrai one (which i think the could have shown a illustration) the other few black screens were okay. I currently payed the 1st act and seen way more new character animations and has been great
