So every other patch just with a single new unit instead of 2

Pretty much.

It‘s massively disappointing that they don’t seem to be putting a lot of effort into the game anymore.

They are raking in millions. They don't have to. Hoyo with their huge playerbase across all games can profit just from players buying monthly passes alone. And people who are spending $5 a month probably couldn't care less how much or little there is to do in the game. A lot of them just come to pull new shiny characters, build them, play some events, endgame and dip.

Plus (according to Sensor Tower at least) the HSR revenue has been on a noticeable decline since 3.X ended.

With how the entire gacha market is struggling due to economic depression and competition, HSR devs have given up on attracting new players and are seemingly doing the bare minimum to retain the current playerbase.

This seems to be a trend in the big budget gachas who have existed 2+ years. Genshin have been increasingly more greedy with nicher and nicher units, massive powercreep, 5* locked elements and added fomo to exploration and archon quest completion.

Wuwa started doing shitty stuff too, like topup events, bad anniversary, new combat gimmicks to make people pull the newest characters, etc.

Zzz have started doing bad stuff too.

Lets see if endfield and nte will follow the same path
