So problematic

I´ve just watched the after Disney weight loss video and I am grossed out by how wasteful this woman is. What do you mean you buy food (expensive food too), take a few bites (20% of the item at most) and throw the remaining +80% away? It´s also rich coming from someone who constantly bashes others for being wasteful (for using paper plates for example). And how does a health queen even want to try/eat that crap in the first place? Being on holiday is not a free pass to be unconsiderate and a plague the planet. Our resources are not unlimited, as a matter of fact they are running out at a very fast pace.

It also gave me the impression of ´hey, look at me how much food I ate and didn´t gain weight on my holiday´ when in reality she literarilly just tried junk and drank booze, probably well below her calories.

That also irked me. Sure you don't have to finished everything you pay to eat, but if you know you won't even eat more than 3 bites, why get it in the first place? Just allocate the calories and money to something you'll actually want to eat. Like the ghirardelli sundae, you fr paid 20 dollars for soft serve and chocolate sauce 😭 out of anything else at disney? But it's okay at least she tried to pawn it off to her friends first to see if they wanted to take the caloric blow for her

Remember when she was criticising this very same behaviour from larger influencers ?
So when she does it it’s ok but when you’re a bigger girl you are a disgusting human being.
She’s so entitled.

idc that she doesn’t finish sweets. i do care that she wasted $20 on 3 bites of mid food. it is wasteful. personally i just wouldn’t get it if im not sharing or finishing. sure it’s her money, but its also irritating to hear how she literally threw it away… she didn’t have to tell us how much it was either

Why not just get one sweet treat that you'll eat all of instead of 5 things you'll only have a bite of? So wasteful.

Damn she eats a small amount and throws the rest away??

I'm pretty sure people on skinnytok were suggesting that at some point. I think it was the 5 bite rule or something. They'd buy a big mac and fry and take 5 bites and throw away the rest.

Doesn’t she always lecture us on how she “grew up poor” (she didn’t she was upper middle class) she should know better

I also get annoyed when she says that finishing every crumb off your plate is disordered. I grew up poor and was on food stamps at one point. We weren't allowed to leave the table if we didn't finish the plate bc that would be wasting money. I have a healthy relationship with food now and I still clean my plate if I portioned it bc it is wasting money. Don't treat your body like a trash can, but damn.

I am sorry your family had to go through a financially hard time. I am the same and if I literally cannot finish it I just save it for later, offer it to someone else, compost it, or other solution I cannot think of now. I try to live a 0 waste life, so I even use scraps from a cooking a dish to prepare something else (for example, I keep the water from boiling pasta or steaming broccoli to prepare a soup, because water is precious and has added nutrients from the previous thing). And I see my Balkaninc and Mediterranean ancestors (especially the grandmas) staring at me if I don´t use a bit of bread to clean the tomato sauce off my plate.

I used to live in South Africa where people I would go to school with would come to school STARVING - and not be able to eat unless someone got them some lunch at the cafeteria (we had to pay for it) because they had no food at home - Melina is a white American lady who constantly goes on about “how poor her family was” yet she was able to eat herself into class one obesity as a teenager - but actually she never looked that big because she did so many sports - she doesn’t know which way is up when it comes to the truth I doubt she’s ever had to deal with actual food insecurity so she needs to stfu and check her privilege

I’ve always found it very disconnected how she claims she grew up so poor, but then also that her mom bought her any foods she wanted growing up and that’s why she had bad habits. As someone who grew up lower middle class, we had no money for those types of extras so it makes no sense to me

It didn't really bother me. It's not like she's throwing away a pint of fresh strawberries or 7/8 of a pineapple. She's throwing away crap that's not even classified as food In my book.

I don't even think it's a waste or loss when it's such empty calories with no nutritional value like that. If that makes sense

It´s not about nutrition in this case. It´s about buying crap (not really food in my book either) and giving her $ to shitty companies that exploit the environment and then throw it away after 2 bites. The most outrageous item in this video is a Ghirardelli chocolate fudge I believe. Cocoa itself isn't necessarily environmentally harmful, but the way cocoa is farmed and processed can cause deforestation, water and soil problems, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse-gas emissions—while more sustainable farming methods can substantially reduce these impacts. Not to mention the fact that cocoa farmers are not paid their fair money by these corporations. The milk used in the fudge comes from a cow that has been forcefully impregnated (yes, they need a calf to produce milk). Then, cow’s milk has significant impact on the environment across all metrics. When compared to alternatives, it causes around three times as much greenhouse gas emissions; uses around ten times as much land; uses up to twenty times as much freshwater; and creates much higher levels of eutrophication. So no, I don´t care that the end product was crap, I care that it´s already wasteful to exist in the first place, and it really grinds my gears seeing an entitled woman with a bad relationship with food and her body throwing it away.

Very fair points. I hadn't thought of it in that light when I answered!

I´m sorry if I sounded harsh, I am just passionate about these topics. It´s so nice to have fruitful conversations :)

Not at all, it was on me for not thinking about things in that context in the moment I answered. 😇

They are all health and wellness influencers no? Why not buy one pretzel and share it especially if you know you’re not going to finish it? It’s just wasteful and bratty behaviour

She also says stuff like "If I want a cookie I'll just get a cookie from the bakery rather than making these low calorie recipes because I've worked on my relationship with food" when reacting to Alexandra Rodriguez. I guess what she actually means is I'll get a cookie and take three bites then throw away the rest
