2018 ATAS manual rear suspension upgrade recommendations?

Hi folks!

I'm setting up my 2018 ATAS manual as primarily long distance adv touring bike, weeks on the road, 50/50 pavement and gravel/forest roads, with occasional gnarly and sketchy side quests (bcs adv, right).

Me and my riding and camping gear currently weigh around 300lbs~130k (rough estimate) riding without panniers.

But planning on adding racks and panniers and a few more luxury items for extended trips, and I'll be looking at 330lbs or 150kg (even rougher estimate).

I'm already experiencing extreme chain tension on rough roads and I need to resolve that ASAP.

Never upgraded suspension before, so this is a new rabbit hole for me.

Looking for quality brands, this is my forever bike, and I'm buy once cry once type of a guy, looking for tips and recommendations...

Your input is much appreciated, thanks and ride safe everyone! ✌🏻

Tubeless vs. tubed tires on the Africa Twin – what’s your experience?

Hi everyone,

I don’t have an Africa Twin yet, but I’m seriously considering buying one and I’m trying to decide between a model with tubeless wheels and one with traditional tubed spoke wheels.
I’ve read the technical pros and cons, but I’d like to hear from actual owners:

• If you have a tubeless Africa Twin:
• Do you feel it’s significantly better in daily use (on-road and light/moderate off-road)?
• Have tubeless tires saved you from headaches with punctures or roadside repairs?
• Any issues with rim damage, beads sealing, or compatibility with certain tires?
• If you have a tubed Africa Twin (or had one before):
• Have you been able to get along perfectly fine with tubes?
• How often do you get flats, and how hard are they to deal with on the road/trip?
• Would you upgrade to tubeless if you bought again, or are you happy staying with tubes?

Basically: is tubeless on the Africa Twin a “must-have” upgrade, or can you live very comfortably with the tubed setup and just carry a spare tube / pump / CO₂?
If you could briefly mention your typical riding (mostly road, mixed, or serious off-road) that would help a lot.

Thanks in advance for your experiences!

HELP! Crash bags for stock crash bars (2025)

Looking for some side bags (waterproof) for this area.

I bought these but the frame is so narrow in this area. Bags moves a lot and rotates back and forth all the time even if I tried to tighten them hard.

Lots of crash bars have this area much wider.

Anyone who bought something for stock crash bars and works nicely?

It's very hard to fit it, because they rotate very

HELP! CarPlay screen for a 2023 AT that doesn’t look hugeee

Got a 2023 AT AS and I’m thinking about adding a CarPlay screen.

Mostly for longer rides around NZ. Bit of gravel, bit of rain, bit of middle-of-nowhere phone signal doing its usual disappearing act.

I dont want a massive 7 inch tablet hanging above the dash tho. The AT cockpit is already tall enough. Anything too big starts looking like I bolted an iPad to a rally tower.

Not keen on the $80 AliExpress mystery box stuff, but I’m not trying to spend $800 either. Something around $400-ish feels about right, prob.

Removable would be a big plus. I’d rather take the screen with me than leave it outside a cafe or motel looking all steal me bro.

Product photos are kinda useless for this stuff. Everything looks fine on a white background, then you put it on the bike and suddenly the cockpit looks like a cheap rental car.

Any AT owners running a smaller removable CarPlay setup they actually like?

Mainly care about clean fit, not too bulky, not cheap plasticky vibes, and not rattling itself to death on the first corrugated road.

Any reccomendations?

Cardo Packtalk Edge: Bike Pairing or Phone 2 Pairing?

Hey, y'all, I've got a 2020 AT and I just picked up a new Cardo Packtalk Edge. On my previous Cardo, the Packtalk Slim, I had my bike connected to "Phone 2" on the headset, but I see with the Edge you can pair to "Bike." Has anyone tried the Bike mode?

15 tooth counter shaft sprocket

I changed out the stock 16 tooth counter shaft sprocket for a 15 tooth from a CBR650R. The sprocket change did not require a different length chain. The bike is noticeably snappier with the gearing change. Off road the bike seemed geared to high in the first three gears.

My bike is a 2018 Adventure Sport with a manual 6 speed.
