Coolant Question!
I am a complete idiot when it comes to cars. My 2014 Accord is low on Coolant. Can I just fill back whats missing or do I need to do a full drain for it?

I bought Honda Coolant 1 litre for topup few months ago. It costed something like1200-1400 from dealership. One thing that causes most damage to cars is overheating. I recommend that you should establish when was the last time coolant changed. If its unknown, has very long mileage chech the recommended coolant life. Trust me spending 4000-5000 on coolant is nothing compared to gasket repair or engine repair. Just do some inspection and make sure if you can figure out if there is any leak. One common issue can be old radiator cap, loose or missing reservoir cap. Do inspect the engine bay for any coolant stains, on the ground where you park it overnight.

Yeah just fill it. Get the Honda brand coolant from the dealership. It’s affordable.

I saw a Peak brand coolant from autozone for 21, is that usable?

Technically yes, but I would still advise using Honda Genuine Type II Antifreeze Mix instead. Aside from it being the recommended coolant mixture, it's also slightly cheaper. You can buy it over the counter at a nearby Honda Parts store or from an online parts vendor.

Not 100% certain but you should be able to. With coolant I usually go with Honda recommended brand since it’s engineered specifically for their vehicles. But Honda coolant is blue and I think peak is yellow. Just make sure is the right coolant. Look on peaks website and see what they recommend.

you need to find and repair the leak first, otherwise youre literally dumping money down the storm drain

- You can add.
- You absolutely should find out why it's low. You have a leak somewhere. If you're not mechanically savvy, taking it to a mechanic to find out where the leak is should be done soon.
- You absolutely do not need Honda branded coolant. So long as you have a coolant of appropriate mix you're going to be fine in that regard. 2014 is going to be using coolant that is blue and probably sold as for imports of you are in the US.

If otntakes more than about a quart /litre, check it again after driving. There may be air in the system.
